Try Sika for scary you can hear them in the Sitka following you and being vocal. Rifle in hands job "When is he going to come out and confront you" especially as he is level with you. Oh for a .500 express!Yes especially when they might be behind you and take you on as a rival, reds really get you edgy in that aspect!
Lovely buck, well done mateThey are coming to the call from everywhere at the moment, but still patchy due to the warm weather...

Seeing a lot more bucks appear this past 24 hours. Do you think the rug hasn’t started properly yet?Three huge bucks last Friday giving it the Bells of Shannon along a line of Oaks between two spinneys. There were 40 or 50 does and fawns with them. No fighting just sounding off. There seems to be a lot more really large antlered bucks coming to the rut this year. We have 2 pure white bucks holding does against others.
I have been wondering the same thing but it is getting on now. It was the same for me a few years back. It didn't really kick off until the end of October but it didn't last long. It's hasn't seemed to have come to any climax over my way in Swindon, unless they have been more active throughout the night. It's been very on and off from what I've seen anyway. Back out Friday so fingers crossed there will be some action thenSeeing a lot more bucks appear this past 24 hours. Do you think the rug hasn’t started properly yet?
I heard it hasn't kicked off near Oakham yet. You aren't that far from me and we have been going strong for 10 days now.Seeing a lot more bucks appear this past 24 hours. Do you think the rug hasn’t started properly yet?
Last year it was obvious. Grunting and plenty chasing about, seems very sedate about the place, apart from a pair of reds showing on the camera!I heard it hasn't kicked off near Oakham yet. You aren't that far from me and we have been going strong for 10 days now.
Haven't seen any Reds with us, but they're at it a couple of miles away. We only see them on rare occasions, but Fallow everywhere. Not really sticking to the old stands much, seem to rut different spots each year now. When I took over 15 years ago they stuck to the old rutting stands but things are changing for some reason, and I've never shot a buck on the old stands.Last year it was obvious. That's a funny looking pricket!
Funny you said that. Just had some stew from that rutty buck I had recently and err, it gave me an upset stomach! My butcher won't take rutty beasts he says the meat is tainted and he's been stalking Fallow for 50 years.
Knocked over a real stinker on Monday. I’ve two route’s for carcasses I don’t want, butchers & pet food.Funny you said that. Just had some stew from that rutty buck I had recently and err, it gave me an upset stomach!
Couldn't taste anything different. It was lovely as ever but... Maybe coincidence.Knocked over a real stinker on Monday. I’ve two route’s for carcasses I don’t want, butchers & pet food.
Spoke to an old butcher mate about the stinker (fallow) and his advice would be okay for eating but get the jacket off sooner rather than later - butchery outlet it was.

I shot an absolute stinker a couple of weeks ago. The butcher I take the fallow to didnt want him but offered to sort him for me. One think they did was try a bit of the meat to see if it was tainted and said it wasnt so I collected a load of burgers, sausages. joints and steaks last night. His coat would have been on for 8-10 days. Sausages tasted fineKnocked over a real stinker on Monday. I’ve two route’s for carcasses I don’t want, butchers & pet food.
