Stalking jacket - plain or camo?

I am looking at a new jacket, and both contenders (Rivers West and Ridgeline) offer plain or camo options.

Maybe I am watching too much Field Sports Britain, but it seems you can't move for Realtree camo these days, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is any better than plain, muted colours.

So, do the deer care, or is it just down to personal taste do you think?

Cheers,

So muted colours and quiet (fabric and me!) probably just as effective as the latest camo pattern. And less likely to attract funny comments down the pub ;)
Cheers.

Rivers West camo for me but they also do it in green. The smock is an excellent bit of kit. http://www.glasgowfieldsports.co.uk/jackets_2300.html?filter_brand=RIVERSWEST&filter_sortby=name+asc

Well spotted! I'm already planning a trip to Glasgow Field Sports to try the Rivers West gear! I'm interested in the Field Pro Smock but also the Ranger Jacket as it has more venting options when it gets a bit warm (front zip and pit zips).

There's a similar choice from Ridgeline - the Monsoon smock or the Roar jacket - but I would ideally like to try them for size. Anyone know of a Ridgeline stockist near Glasgow?

Thanks for the help!

no probs Andy

I've got both the mentioned jacket from rivers west. The great thing about the 2 is you don't need to pile the clothes on underneath therefore your lean in weight. Its all about layering (base layer, mid layer, jacket) to suit the weather conditions just like outdoor or trekking clothing. my ranger is used for foxing / bunnies at night and the smock i use for stalking.

RWC2010,
Do you mind telling me how you would compare the two, given that you use them for different things? Is the fact the Ranger jacket is your nightime jacket mean it is heavier/warmer than the smock, which is maybe more suited to stalking? My fear with the smock was overheating but maybe I'm worrying about nothing. I normally wear a merino wool base layer and am happy with the layering concept from experience hill walking and fishing so with that in mind maybe the smock is the way to go... In which case I just have to decide between the Rivers West and the Ridgeline...:???:
