1st November was a special day for me. I took my first roe deer, a yearling doe, using my .270 Parker Hale. The shot was around 70 yards from a tripod. She was lying slightly angled, and the bullet entered through the shoulder and exited through the rib cage. It was a clean and effective shot.
Early in the day I spooked a group of five roe while walking down through the ground, and later spotted two does further on. It turned into a long day on foot, covering around 19,000 steps on my Garmin, but every bit of it was worth it.
She’s now been butchered, and I’ve got a pot of venison chilli simmering away in the slow cooker. The freezer is full, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
A big thank you to my friend and mentor Scoby270 for the guidance and support.
