I’ll take any excuse I can get…If only you had a local gunshop that could make you some super fast and accurate ammo....
Seriously though, all ammo manufacturers suffer from lot to lot variance
100fps is the kind of ES you can expect from a single box of factory stuff sometimes
Is that REEEAAAAALLLLLLY the reason you missed?......
My PRC homeloads get 3150 for 143gr, so it shows just how under loaded the factory ones are!Hornady are mean when it comes to pooder. Their CM ammo is also under loaded but again accurate.
I have always been suspicious that it was to create enough of a gap to justify the PRC but I have never had the pleasure of reloading one. If the intent was 140gr at 3200fps for prs limits then factory ammo is well under loaded ?
Actually didn’t they have to download the 7 PRC? Carbon ring issues. Aka lots of pooder, a tighter neck than traditional rounds and geezers that have never HAD to clean their rifle before ? Seem to recall seeing something about that
Same as what I'm getting with the 143s also.My PRC homeloads get 3150 for 143gr, so it shows just how under loaded the factory ones are!
What powder out of interest?Same as what I'm getting with the 143s also.
Corrosion or erosion in the barrel ?I have been shooting a 6.5 PRC for 4 years, mostly using factory Hornady 147gr ELDM.
When I first got it, I chrono’d them at bang on the box claimed velocity - 2910 fps.
Over the last 6 months, I’ve had problems with it apparently shooting low. I chrono’d the most recent box. 2800 fps. So a nearly 100 fps drop in velocity.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m wondering if this is a systemic problem, just a particular lot, or something to do with my barrel.
Barrel is a 24” lothar walther, fitted new when I got the rifle.
I’d be very grateful for suggestions.
wow, may i ask what you primarily use that load for ?My PRC homeloads get 3150 for 143gr, so it shows just how under loaded the factory ones are!
Sika in clearfellwow, may i ask what you primarily use that load for ?![]()
