so my new xrs came today, and my new magazine, which is a 5 round AICS Bergara mag, put a couple of empty cases in to make sure it chambered, no where near, bolt goes over the top buy some distance,
mag seems all the way in, so unless im being thick, something is not right??

thanks,

Lee

I had to fettle my AICS polymer mag when I put my Tikka into a Field stock, got a piece of fine sandpaper and sanded the lips. My mag was difficult to click into place, though.

mine doesnt even click into place, and pulls out with out using the release catch, given it a good whack when its in,
dont really want to go at it with sand paper, when it looks more like it will need an angle grinder on it, its a fair way off.
and if it has to go back i dont want it not as bought ,

Seems like you may have the wrong one then.
Crickey, you have some trials & tribulations, what with your reloading escapades and all.
Stick with it, the AICS mags are the way forward, for me in any case.

Use metal mags and ajust the feed lips to allow proper presentation of the case to the bolt

I dont think people should be making things claiming it fits this that and the other, only to find out i have to f about with it to make it fit, my F ing about only ends one way, me ruining it
5 round metal mags are a bit like hens teeth at the moment, ill have to bite the bullet and get a 10 shot, even though i dont like them as there to long

Do you think it's the correct mag?
If it is all you need is to remove some of the polymer, like I did, mine wouldn't click in. I just kept pressing it in hard enough to give a witness mark on the polymer and kept carefully sanding the mark out, then pressed it in again to give me another mark in the polymer to sand out... repeat as necessary until the mag clicked in without too much effort. Took me half an hour.

Would that be sanding it at position A or B. I’m seeing no witnesses marks on mine other than the back of it.

iv just emailed rifle mags, and luckily hes replied straight away, asking about my rifle, so he may have a solution, told him i dont mind fettling with it if theres a good chance it will work,

Reply from rifle mags.

Tikka T3 rifles using the standard format slimline hunting magazines (the plastic ones) do not play well with polymer AICS magazines unfortunately.

This is due to the limited clearance space of the action and bolt on Tikkas, the thicker lips of the magazines are too wide to locate. It is possible to shave them down if you are keen, but generally we recommend steel or aluminium magazines for T3s.

Standard reply from riflemags: that info is there to see when you browse the different mags.
From memory, most of the polymer I removed was from surface B, and I used a headtorch to aid a visual inspection as well. I had to press for maybe 10 seconds or longer quite firmly to get a faint "cut" line to polish out, you should be able to see how far away from the catch is to getting engaged as well if you use a torch.
Just keep whittling away, it's quite pleasing when it all clicks into place :tiphat:

Are you 100% sure the action is correctly seated on the recoil lug? I ran that style of mag in my xrs tikka combo for 1800 plus rounds with no snag. Multiple plastic mags. Work checking

F it, im going in, my want for a 5 round mag out weights the cost of me messing it up,:D

My bergara mag should arrive tomorrow.
Mine is for my 204 Remington action and krg bravo chassis.
Will let you know how I get on.

So I started off with good intentions with the sand paper. Knowing full well I have no patience whatsoever. And where it would end up. And the probable outcome🤣
