What's involved?

There's info on the BASC page Conor linked. 8 meetings a year plus reading for them, and a lot of flak because anyone from here who gets it is likely to be in a minority and be outvoted when trying to make sensible decisions - depending on the quality of the rest of the board- thus the members won't be happy (this is if my experience on the vet regulator is anything to go by) and the antis are antis.
