BASC Firearms Licensing support

I have had support from BASC during a situation I have been dealing with over the past few years, especially from the kind, helpful and reasonable Martin Parker.

Whilst the situation in question unfortunately didn't 'go my way', this was no fault of BASC's, and they were, and continue to be, a valuable support and resource.

Thankfully haven’t had to use that aspect of membership , either legal cover or FAC assistance. I find Johnathan Orr a true gentlemen. A lot of the comments revolve around insurance on this thread….. is Stalking Directory big enough yet to look at some form of insurance for forum members or a discounted link to a company that does provide cover? We must be getting close…..

Joanne recently attended advisory meetings across northern forces and helped train Cumbria Police. Can someone explain what training was given.

No. Because out of all the membership possibly 10 % might take it up, then they would bitch and whinge because they didn’t get a free sticker, or it was too expensive or something, and the infighting would be horrendous. As usual.
There are plenty of companies who already have the membership, leave it to them
And, imho, we here at SD are a very small minority of the shooting fraternity. A minnow in a large pond. A very nice minnow, but, a minnow none the less.

As someone who has some training in the law it seems to me that a "Fighting Fund" that is made available to contest a case that has an assured chance of success is pretty pointless. Mere "cherry picking" doesn't serve a membership well. As if the case has an assured chance of success then you might as well present it yourself anyway.

Following the process of 1) These are the facts of the case, 2) This is the law, 3) This is how the law applies to the case, 4) This is what the decision should be when the law is so applied. It's not difficult. I took the French Minister of the Interior to court, in France, and all in French to the third tier and won. As the law applied correctly agreed with my position.

It is the cases that have a less than likely chance of success that need the resources of a skilled advocate. Who can then argue those points if law that could be either way in or against you and persuade the court that they support your argument or are weak if they support the contra argument. That's what a true "Fighting Fund" should exist for.

attention.

“The deer at Wollaton Park are wild animalsand this needs to be respected.

Im considering joining either BASC or NGO purely for the legal advice (member of GWCT for most other things). Can anyone suggest if one is better than the other based on that? Tia

Having contested the variation undertaken by TVP in moving .300 wm and .375 from an open ticket to closed, my experience would be chose NGO as the assistance and knowledge far out strips that of BASC.

I had the privilege of shared information of a similar case to mine between NGO and BASC, the report undertaken by BASC for their member, shall we say, was lacking in detail and substance.

I used the insurance offered with BDS at the time as well as the NFU.

Since then, I use side by side insurance for legal cover.

Many people however would not be able to fight a case in court - even a sure thing
