BASC warns Minister against shotgun–firearms licensing merger

Yep, agreed again. I think this current shower have proven the disparity between what they say at elections is quite different to reality. And reform would be just as bad (I personally suspect worse but that's based purely on my own bias). But even by that yardstick, nasty nigel is a degree more slimy than your average slug.

you may be right , the difference is the current lot and the lot before them have absolutely shown us what they think of us and proved beyond doubt their incompetence , reform have not , reform deserve a chance and if they are no better then we get to vote them out next time , thats how democracy's work .

i am sorry nigel came round and goosed your wife then sucked the jam out of your doughnut...........

Rihanna. That's one of the dance routines when I have to go to the Paradis Latin cabaret in Paris as I have done since 1999. Me? I always preferred the red rhinoceros to "Two Weeks" by FKA Twigs. All in the best possible taste. Just hopes she doesn't hurt herself at 1:42.

Can't say i'm bothered about a potential merger. BASC seem to be constantly stiring the pot. BASC need to be working on there arguemnt for when a game shooting ban comes because i'd bet my house its on the agenda with someone. Pick your battles, don't argue on this members account.

Safety in numbers. Wholly agree. If only every person who holds an FAC or SCC could introduce 1 or 2 persons to the sport, the collective voice would be better heard. Plus better communication and alignment between shooting bodies on socio/statute/political issues affecting everyone.
Or just get apathetic shooters to get involved with MPs

‘The British Shooting Sports Council is an umbrella body which brings together Britain’s major shooting associations to achieve consensus positions on political and legislative issues affecting the shooting sports.’ - would welcome learning if BASC worked in concert with the BSSC on this current initiative or couldn’t get a majority agreement so went it alone?
Yes, all working together. The following article provides an update with that in mind:

Having folded tamely over the proposed lead ban why on earth would any government take any so called warning from anyone in the shooting community seriously, after all they've already succeeded with the divide and conquer stuff?
Would you be willing to write to your MP explaining your concerns about possible changes in shotgun licensing rules asking them to pass your concerns onto the policing minister Sarah Jones MP, asking her to act on the concerns of BASC and GTA and to put a halt to any consultation, and requesting a response from the minister?

I shall certainly be discussing it with Quigley, but we've been here before with the semi auto and pistol bans, and the hunting act, with various organisations adopting the blow you, I'm alright attitude and approving of government bans. I'm not necessarily singling out BASC, and that's not my point anyway. What I'm saying is that collectively we don't and probably never have presented a united front that the politicians will take seriously.

It's when I see posts on here asking questions like "how do I get my rifle from my house to my car, which is parked in the street" that I really fear for the future of shooting.
That is very unfair coming from someone who has zero real-world experience of the challenges of living in a UK Town/City in the 21st-Century. Even 20-years ago advice from FEO's was "transport rifles in a fishing rod holder or golf bag".

Sarah Jones MP is like any MP think they know best and do what ever they can to further their own career and stay in government, just like Michael Howard did.

Knife crime is out of control so persecute legal firearms owners, so much easier than solving knife crime.

Thank you. As for the organisations the pistol ban is before my time, and the organisations and sporting press all joined forces for the Unity Campaign spearheaded by FirearmsUK in 2015 for a repeal of the Firearms (Amendment) No.2 Act 1997 (to permit .22 pistols to be used again for competitive shooting) and we fell well short of the 100K petition mark with 21K online signatures. I agree that cyniscm and apathy is our enemy and we could bemoan all these events from 2015 and 1997 and everything from today going back before 1997. Perhaps what's needed now is folk being positive and encouraging rather than negative and discouraging - just a thought.

Indeed yes Conor, but that requires unity, not division.

Yes Conor, will do but he will wait until a standard reply is produced by central government before he sends it to me.
It will not be his own thoughts or view on the subject.

Writing to MPs on firearms ownership is never going to change anything, we may make a difference if 400,000 plus firearms owners, the trade, ranges, and clay grounds respond to the consultation.

How about a multimedia advert showing how little legal firearms are used in crime (and how the police failed regarding Plymouth) vs illegal firearms and knifes.
Then how deskilling the general population further degenerates the country’s security at time of world crisis.

Show the government, we will not giving in without a fight.
