man who converted staple gun to real gun gets five years, as he should do,

I don’t do drugs, never have but I have seen more lives wrecked with alcohol than drugs.

I would legalise them and tax the f@ck out of it same as booze and fags

or legalise drugs, war on drugs costs money and is failing year on year, let boots sell drugs to people that want them.
that guy got what he deserved but its a small fish from the ocean
Addictive drugs ruin lives, regardless of whether they're legal or illegal.
The NHS and society in general needs to change their attitude towards addictive illnesses, its not a self-discipline issue and expecting sufferers to "help themselves" is just a fob off, by the very nature of it those afflicted are beyond doing so without strong support from the medical profession!

I think you’ll find that we’re one of the lowest taxed countries in the OECD.
Legalisation would cut off the criminal supply markets and pay for addiction support for those in need.
Alcohol causes far more societal damage than all illegal drugs combined. Ever been beaten up by a pothead?

Not sure what this years figures are but on personal income, profits and gains we were higher than average.

Drug use is a personal choice........and anyone stupid enough to make that choice deserves whatever the personal consequences are.
That said, these stupid people are also supporting a vast global industry that is impossible to control simply because of the money generated, and the associated high level "hands in the til".
Making the stuff freely available at supervised secure facilities would certainly hit the cartels/dealers etc....but the jury is out on the long term effect of such a policy.

Legalising it doesn't get round the drug driving issue or others being forcibly exposed to it against their will. If anything it will increase those. Plus documented health risks of using it which will increase in prevalence as legalisation will lead to increased use.
But nothing will stop this, Portugal and others who have decriminalized have proven success stories, may as well get some contribution from these losers.. Hand wringing doing nothing achieves … nothing ( funny that)

what about prescription cannabis? ledal to injest just not smoke? the docs the prescribe it?
Actually if it’s prescription (which is fairly easily obtained in this country for certain conditions, although you may have to go private) it’s legal to smoke your ‘medicine’ in public or private. Normal no smoking area rules would obviously apply.

it absolutely is a self discipline issue , at some point the decision is made to take drugs , not everyone takes that decision some say no.

what consequences are there for taking illegal drugs?

If you'd lived with someone with an addictive illness you wouldn't say anything so stupid

Probably the stupidist thing that you've put on SD, try living alongside a family member with an addiction and think again.

challenge accepted !

joking aside , am i wrong though? it all starts with a bad decision does it not?

and i am very sorry your family member is suffering from addiction issues , i really am.

In my late mother's case it was unbeknownst to her marrying a violent, abusive, control freak

Same for my mother, although she said father changed after coming back from National Service. Before he went to Egypt, he was ok.
I'd describe him as a paranoid alcoholic... difficult man to like or live with... he made our lives Hell, Hell, Hell... but we are all the sum total of our lives so far, and I'm quite a decent chap :tiphat:
