Out last night.

I sat out over bait for a few hours in a high seat last night, bit of a mistake, as the wind was a bit keen.
I'm going to use the Mule tonight and pop the front window up, tuck it against a hedge, I should be a little more comfortable... gotta get #50 before the year's end.
Good luck 👍

Good luck from me as well. Managed to get over the 50 target a short while ago ...nice to watch the boys who are chasing the 100 mark :) 👍

It stopped raining at 4.30pm so 5pm saw me out ratting. Quick chat with farmer and son. Not seen or heard any foxs. Then busy 90 mins another 30 rats. Finished at 7pm and just before I put my air rifle in my truck a quick scan with thermal over the horse paddock. Bugger me a fox at about 75 yds. It looked at me and just curled up under the hedge.
Lambing starting in a month so I have a while to catch up with it with the .204.

Great time last night pursuing a dog and vixen courting.
He never shut up. Even when he rumbled I was about but as he came came to check me out by finding my path he completely shut up and disappeared. Never saw her again either!
I watched him go to a gateway I had walked through. Sniff the ground, look in my direction 200 plus yards away and disappear.
I hope I hear chatterbox again tonight....

I seem to be getting it wrong atm...
Sat up a high seat in the wind a few nights ago... nowt..
Sat in the Mule with the window up last night when it was calm, and I should have been up the high seat... Freddy busted the Mule as soon as he/she walked out of the wild bird cover... wrong position and a tad close at 120 yards.. disappeared back where it came from sharpish.
Never mind, I'll get Fred before the start of next year...

Just reviewed the on board videos, all missed, mud bursts underneath them making them skitt, Think I let the rifle tip over when cleaning ... enought to shift any internals.

I know very little about badgers, never bothered about them other than loathe.
When do they breed and when do they have more of the little bastard's?

Anytime year round, just like some deer delayed implantation can be involved, most births co inciding with plentiful food sources .... you know like egg yolk or chicks / young hedgehogs?

#78&#79.
The hunt was in the village today so I thought I better go see if anything is about and yep get on one just around the corner from home.
I lost for a while but concluded it must of lay down. Soon found it resting from a busy day!
Vixen at around 50yds. This fox had been shot at before! Not by me I must add but it had a nice hair cut down the side it's body via a bullet.
Second fox was on another farm and was called in from 300 yards.
A third fox later was called in from over 600yds but must of winded me resulting in it hovering about in range but with an ash tree between us I always had branches in the way. He buggered off eventually but I know now....

The second fox pictured next has a 3" hole on the exit side from the 40gn vmax. The picture doesn't fully show the true size.

An entertaining hunt last night. Up on my new favourite spot on top of silage stack.

I'd slacked putting bait out last couple days so took foxpro with me. Scanning for first half hour, saw rabbits, woodcock and heard barn owls.

Put foxpro onto triple fox bark. Playing off&on for 40 minutes nothing. Then see fox enter under hedge on far side, just over 200yd. Entered but not even glance in my direction, was off at a fast pace, definitely had places to be, going straight along hedge. Noticeable limp on one front leg. In & out hedge bottom but no shot & soon gone.

Turned caller off & left it a bit. When i was happy with leaving it a bit i put caller onto rabbit distress, thinking with that limp she might fancy an easy mealas hunting not so easy & quite quick had 2 fox in thermal spotter, other side of hedge. Waiting game but eventually both slipped onto our land & coming towards caller. Front one making good progress, limpy bit behind.

Front one sat down at around 100yd so I threw 32gr towards. Down. Chunky dog. I weighed him back at yard, 8.5kg.

Second one u-turn back under hedge but not legging it. Watched it skirting around, dipping in & out of fields. Staying 400yd or so but obviously wanting to get back up to where mate was.

But eventually she stopped showing so much & my bed was calling.

I've seen a limping vixen on here before, maybe 3 or 4 years ago, never got a shot at her but saw her wee so know it vixen. I'd named her Peg. Wonder if could still be her?
