New year, new job, new car … BUT the only sensible option with BIC tax is a leased EV… I hate the very ethos of EV… but I hate tax more!! New company kindly giving me a company vehicle of my choosing but with kids cars, Mrs car and a restoration on the drive I need this to be my do it all… Any suggestions of what will cope with muddy fields/farm tracks/ general shoot day nonsense? Thanks !

That Munro thing looks like someone's taken a classic defender and put it into Minecraft (for the younger member) or redrawn it using a ruler on every line...

Tesla model X awd? the Falcon doors will get the carcasses in easily. I did engineer the Falcon doors though so that's the downside.

My advice; Don’t, you will only be disappointed (as per a family member experience).

Just go the other way and buy a heavy, high road tax, 19mpg, 3.0L flat 6, petrol grenadier and don’t look back - at least that’s what I did.

Sorry, but I’m not going to buy in to this green fad of ev. Even if it saves tax.

You should instead Enjoy every last year of being able to own a high torque combustion engine, whilst you can, as it may not be an option in the medium term; by when the money you have saved in tax will still be there to spend on soy latte.

Not the advice you wanted, but, I’m not drinking the cool aid!

same except i bought a diesel

I think the honest answer is that there isn’t one in the UK at the moment.

There’s a couple about in the US like the Ford F150 lightning and the Rivian pickup but unfortunately we’ll never see those over here.

Skoda have the Enyaq which is 4x4 and full electric, BMW also have the IX range but they’re not cheap and I’m not sure you get xdrive on the lower spec models.

Is PHEV achievable? Opens the doors to a lot more choice.

Edit: I’d personally sick with ICE until there’s no other option but that’s not helpful advice in these circs 😬

I would look at one of these Audi or Merc SUVs. Friend has one of bigger Audi SUV. Enough ground clearance 4x4 and she pulls a 30ft Dragon yacht on a trailer (all up 2.5tonnes, and travels length of UK. Only embuggerance is that most charging points on motorways won’t take car with a 30ft long trailer, so has to un hitch to charge. Only requires one stop from Edinburgh to South Hampton.

My youngest daughter markets electric cars, her partner is a development engineer working on the electric version of a prestigious brand. They've both driven luxury and mid range electric cars for lengthy periods of time and over considerable distances. What does she drive a VW diesel golf estate and he drives an Audi with a large six cylinder petrol engine or a Discovery with a diesel engine.. Neither of them would consider buying an electric car at present.

My daughter and her staff have been stopped from taking any of the electric cars in the company fleet on long journeys. They just take too long having to stop to recharge thus wasting working hours, plus a diesel car works out more economical on longer runs.

Oh no, it’s EX

Great advice… the phev route doesn’t really help and so dinosaur burners rule!

I’ve been in the US quite a bit over the last few months, the F150 lightning is a reeeyt bit of kit. For the size of the thing it’s blisteringly fast and has the equivalent range of a v8 petrol counterpart!

Had a Ram 2500 6.7 v8 when I was in Colorado last month and I honestly think I’d take the F150 Lightning over that!

Ed: I’ve just had a look and Ford have scrapped it from the range. Guess the lure of a V8 is (understandably) too much for most!
