Out last night.

@jall55 probably already had a good nosh up. The weather is not really cold yet.

Finally #50 for me.
Nice dog fox, he came trotting across the field towards the baited area. I was tucked up by a hedge in the Mule with the window up, a nice 140-yarder off a Tack bag. It's nice to have a solid shooting platform.

Yeah, a couple of years ago, I tipped a bucket full of rat carcasses out on the bottom field. It was probably late January, easily 50 rats in the bucket, kicked them about a bit to scatter a few, next morning when I walked the dogs, they had all gone. I've known them load up an earth with grub like they had cubs to feed at this time of year, maybe a bit later..

#86 and #87 tonight.

First one was a vixen that absolutely bombed in from about 400yards to hand call 20251223_200100.webp
Second one was a dog fox which was a lot more of a patient game.
Came through a hedge on top of hill and had to wait for ages to come down to offer a safe shot. After watching him marking constantly he finally changed direction and came down the slope. Offering a simple 100yard chest shot

Dropped a box of biscuits off to one of the farms last night and had a stroll round 200 acres ... all quiet which is good as I hit the foxes hard earlier in the year after some lamb losses.

Got home and parked up the lane ...and theres a bloody fox 20 yards from the house....quick trot down the lane and watched him having a snack on something in a bush 20 yards or so away...no clear shot then he headed into cover. Followed him across the wood but no clear or safe shot...looked back towards the house and theres another one heading across the field. Had a 100 yard dash to get to a suitable spot and through the hedge she comes about 30 yards away..quick shout to stop her and down she goes

Headed back the way the dog fox went to see if I could catch up with him and spotted another crossing below me. Nice easy 150 yard shot...missed.....

The fox didnt seem massively bothered and headed across towards the farm so another quick dash and managed another 150 yard shot (but concentrated this time) and down she went.

2 vixens and Nos 57 & 58 (I must apologise as I didnt post the pics of 55 & 56)

That will be me for this year so a Merry Xmas to you all.

Here's my little haul from last night. They were almost certainly the work of one of the so-called charities, wreaking both environmental and economic vandalism on the area yet again...

This one was healthy apart from a strange section of the tail which had no fur at all:

And look at the state of this one:

There was a sixth too, but I couldn't find it in the brambles...
Great shooting 😎👌

Had an hour out on a chicken unit to shoot a few rats with the air rifle, ended up with 23.
I put a .223 in the motor just in case I spotted Freddy on the way, had a look on a baited area where I shot the last one, nowt.... but while I was knobblin' a few rats one trotted past 60 yards away... giving a little woo woo woo, so subtle I wondered if I was hearing things, I know my IcoTec doesn't go as low as that fox was calling.

I've heard them whispering to each other in woodland during the day.
They can make quite a range of strange quiet noises.

#51. I sat up in a high seat overlooking bait. One fox came jogging across the middle of the field at 175 yards. I thought he would come to the bait, but it moved off diagonally away from me, there was no chance of that one stopping.
Then, half an hour later, on the field just behind me, this one popped up, might have been the same one.
155 yards. Nice.

#52
The first one this year that I've from the field at the bottom of the garden. I shot several last year on that field. The shooting has been let to a diy game shooting syndicate, they have been driving about with the juke box blaring out, and knobbling a few. Spotted one jogging across the field a week ago and started to lob a few bits of bait down.
Another dog fox. The last five have all been jolly nice fellas, prime breeding stock.
I'd better get to bed. Beating tomorrow.
