Old English Labrador

wondering if anyone could help me .

I’m looking for a Labrador breeder , however I’m looking for a specific type.
I’m not looking for through and through working lines and I’m not looking for pure show dog.

I’m looking for a large Labrador , thick set , thick head , otter tail , thick coat and needs to be strong….. not fast .

I do a lot of wildfowling and need something to tackle the cold , climb steep banks etc .

I’m not looking for a pup immediately but wouldn’t say no to the right dog.

My lab is 10 years old now and looking for a replacement and it’s becoming a harder task than I first thought.

I’m basically looking for a true thick build traditional English Labrador .

Labs nowadays seem to be going in to completely different directions and neither represent the traditional breed . ( not saying they are no good ) just not what I want.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
It took me along time to find him originally and the breeders I purchased him from I cannot seem to make contact , this was 10 years ago though

Thanks

Jamie

Years ago there was a Kennel by me called Gunstock labradors . Proper big labs. They would fit with what you want
Like you I have noticed at shows there are no proper labs. Either to small or to racey.

Hi , appreciate any responses I have , but I don’t see old English labs on the websites , “to me “ I’m seeing working strain bread.
Again , lovely dogs , as are all labs , but not what I’m looking for.

Thanks

There’s probably a reason your not seeing this type of lab anymore
Health reason they were prone to arthritis hip problems all due to line breeding ….
Which a think has now been band
The type a remember seeing way back resembled undocked rotis very heavy

These types of labs are still popular in America , and are known as old English , what we have today in England represents what was the traditional American lab

Look for Contender Gundogs, based North Yorkshire or was, my last dealings were when they were still in Suffolk before Natasha headed north.

Good labs and one of only 2 breeders I would go too.

A stalker from Girvan used to breed what your looking for, a mate had one looked like a Rottweiler x lab but was pure lab I’ll try get his details.
