Deer hoist quick build.

I was bored this afternoon so went into the garage to see if I could find something to do. Ended up knocking up this 2 section deer hoist for the tow bar from some box section
bits I had in there, I’ll get a winch for it too.
It’s far from perfect and I’m no great welder but I’ve hung my 16 stone from it no problem.
I’ll go out tomorrow and see if I can get a fallow to use it on.

Instead of the wire on the winch , get some dyneema rope off temu

My pole moves slightly on the tow ball.
I am looking at drilling a hole welding a nut on it and make a turn screw just to tighten it up.
It's just an OCD thing 🤣

Thanks, I’ll check it out. The screw turn is a good idea too 👍🏻

Concur completely about the Dyneema - both my vehicle winches are now synthetic as is the deer hoist and the capstan winch; so much easier to live and work with!

Oddly, back to the thread of carcass lifts and the ubiquitous Hilka, Lidl, Aldi, Screwfix 240v winches, those steel cables never bunch or break. Indeed, the Parkside one has a lovely woven cable that I've on seen on very expensive winches.

I’d not heard of Dyneema rope before. There’s rope on Amazon that has a Dyneema core, is that ok or is there a full Dyneema rope that’s better?

You are correct, some of the really expensive 2mm and 3mm stuff will do a ton but it's not nice to handle hence me recommending 6mm which doesn't dig/cut into the hands when your moving/swinging it about under load. A bit like a cheese wire...

What actually holds it onto the ball hitch?
What stops it just falling forward?

Is it a bit of 60x60x3 as that has an inside of 54 with 50x50x3 44
Yes, and that’s welded to a section of 50x50. 60x60 used again to make a socket for the top section to slot into. I welded a piece of 2mm plate onto the front face of the top section that drops into the socket so it fits more snug and doesn’t droop forward.

Fair play, mine is one off the side as I made a tow bar for the D-Max so with it being full width then it sits off to the side and swings around like many of the side mounted small hoists on light trucks.
