I'm afraid of the Dark - Thermal suggestions

Howdy Folks!

The day has come. after 7ish years, my trusty Infiray CB19 thermal monocular has clapped up. - Not really, but power button has collapsed into the unit meaning I need something pointy to get it one and off. Even at that its hit and miss - I have toyed with the idea of dropping it into a camera/photography shop to see it can be repaired but concerned with waterproof seals being broken. Either way, I shoot for numbers on woodland restoration sites so I need a working and reliable monocular.

Foreseeing the inevitable, I had started looking for a new one. I'm getting married this October and was initially planning on buying a Hikmicro Falcon FQ35 as a commiseration present afterwards but I think I might need one sooner which is less than ideal as we are saving every spare penny we have.

Now, while I'd love the Falcon, my budget is cut back somewhat to somewhere between €1250-€1500. I'm currently considering the below but open to any suggestions of other units with similar specs.
  • Pulsar Telos XQ35 - Can pick one up new for €1400
  • Nocpix Lumi H35 - €1600
  • Pulsar Axion 2 LRF - €1800 (higher but it has LRF and is on sale from €2300)

Anybody have any recommendations on these or others?

I have the Nocpix Lumi H35R and as you know, it is within the Infiray group of companies. You will notice a massive step up from what you have now and I doubt there is anything better on the market for the price - comes with 3 18650 batteries and fits in my top jacket pocket. Exceptional build quality. Generally get what you pay for. I am buying the Nocpix D70R scope when it is released in the spring.

Give Thomas Jack's outlet a call you might get lucky. I picked up an ex demo axion on your list for less than £1k. Nice thermal but not quite as good as the older xq38f with the same sensor imo but well good enough for my use, lrf is a real bonus.

Hello, Could you not get it refurbished ?? I think Nocpix UK may help, Although i understand your need to up grade if you rely on the Thermal

Yeah I emailed Infiray to see if they'd repair it but no reply. in fairness, the CB19 is discontinued now so I'd imagine they wont. I'll contact Nocpix but I'm in Ireland and not sure if we have an agent over here.

Yes, this is the sort of stuff I'm looking for. The 18650 are great to have. A new battery for my current one is 90 quid. Can pick up branded 18650s for about 20 quid. I'll bump the lumi up higher on my list

Have you checked that you will still be allowed to have hobby's, interests etc?
I have the Nocpix vista but can't compare it to anything.
All I would say is that it's difficult to get the correct button when fumbling in the dark.

Fair enough, they've come down in price since I used to buy them 7 or 8 years ago. Make sure they're legit branded ones otherwise they can explode...supposedly.

I did buy a cheapo one once and you could fry an egg on it.

Hello, All those off Fogstar and Battery Boy are genuine makes and the latter tests before posting

For £1550 take a look at the Oneleaf 75mm lense MT1000LRF

640x512 sensor
LRF and BC

Superb value for money for a 640x512 sensor thermal

Thanks for your suggestion but not looking for a scope, just a monocular. The Lumi h35 has 640*512 too for €1550.

I bought the NocPix LUMI H35R Thermal Monocular with Range Finder from London Camera Exchange 8 weeks ago and would buy the exact same again. The Shooting Show in Feb at the NEC is the place to go if you can spare the time.

Hi,
I have several good x 18650 batteries I no longer need. Would it be much hassle for me to send them to you.
I do remember selling a stock for x number pounds including delivery, not realising exactly where it was going. I honoured the sale but member it cost more for postage than I got for the stock!
Ken.
