53gn Vmax vs 52gn ELD-M

So I’ve been having a look at some bullet choices for 1:8 T3 Super Varmint in 22-250. Out of curiosity, I’ve run some numbers through AB Quantum for the above bullets and I was very surprised to see that the 53gn Vmax out performed the ELDM in regard to bucking the wind and bullet drop. So it got me thinking, why bother with the ELDM if the Vmax seems superior? I mean it’s not a huge difference, say 6” over 500 yds. Maybe I’m missing something.

The difference is in the bc of the v-max .29 vs.247 for the eldm

Yeah I see that, just wondering why the ELD shooters don’t just use the Vmax.
I don't have a fast enough twist in any of my 22-250 to use the vmax, and now that I have a fast twist.223 finding the vmax is difficult at best.

Depends…what do you intend to use them for? One’s obviously a hunting bullet and the others a match bullet. 53gr vmax seems to be a great bullet though!. I use it factory federal loads and can shoot one hole groups at 100m so haven’t bothered starting to reload for my .223 yet!

Yeah just a foxing/general vermin bullet. I always used to use the Amax in my .223 and they were an incredible foxing bullet although not designed to be. Nothing ever got up afterwards. I’ve bee shooting the 53 grain Vmax for a long time now, but wondered what the amax’s replacement ELDM was going to be like.

Not in a 22-250 but I have always used the 53gn Nosler Varmegeddon. If Nosler are to be believed, it has an even higher BC than the 53gn Vmax.

They are certainly a very consistent, accurate and destructive bullet and until quite recently, were really quite cheap. Prices have crept up a little though. They are flat based though, so i wonder if the Vmax would be better beyond the 350 and onwards sort of distance.

Yeah just had a look at that, they state a higher BC and I’ve put the figures in quantum and at 400 yards there’s a difference of half an inch drop in favour of the varmageddons.

Oooo that makes sense. Thought you guys would have stockpiles of those!
Hahahahaah the last I looked at a major national retail store zero on hand. But if I wanted to drive 300 miles round trip I probably could find some.

52gr Amax and the 52gr Eldm are the same bullet with the slightly different plastic tip. I load them the same for my R8 22/250 for the same result. Fantastic bullets.

I use the the 52gr eldm in a .22 ARC (so near enough the same ballistics as .22-250).

Very effective on roe, with minimal damage. Not had one take a step after being hit.

I’ve not used the Vmax, but I think it would create quite a bit more mess.
