FAC air guns Scotland

Well thats wot their doing.
The boy in shop wad laughing about it.

No one in right mind is going to look at an airgun, shake on a deal, go away and apply for sn AWC come back to dhop 16 weeks later to pick it up.
If they have to record the sale how does that work?

Well, I must be a right numpty then because that's exactly what I've done 😜. My local RFD had this mint second hand HW80 for sale for the price of a new HW99. I mean, it's like brand new! If I hadn't bought and paid for it there and then it would've been gone by the time my AWC comes through and I didn't want to risk that. Either way I have to wait for my AWC anyway but I know that the rifle I really want is at my RFD.

Aye but do u live in scotland.
So u need a ticket anyway

This was selling to english folk coming over the border.
No way some one is travelling up see a gun they like only to go back home and apply for a visitors ticket.
Esp when u only need the ticket for 10mins

The whole AWC is a joke.
I bought 1 privately, guy said he has to see my ticket but does not write anything on it or do i remove anything from his.
Dont think he recorded my name or address, but not like his airgun can be identified anyway

The whole AWC is completely ill thought out.
The fact that airguns dont have serial numbers made it pointkess fron the start.

I see now what the thing was about the English coming to Scotland for an air gun. You're right about the AWC being a farce. There's no traceability of them etc. I had to go through the whole rigmarole of applying for a grant for an AWC whilst I already have SGC and FAC ! Surely both certificates supersede an air rifle and thus an AWC should be immediately granted with a SGC or FAC if common sense was a thing still in existence. But it gets better, check my email I sent them and the response:

Aye the whole thing is a complete farce.

Althou to be fair who ever replied to u showed more common sense than is normal.
Theyve obviously put 2+ 2 together and assumed about ur AWC.
And good they grant it automatically too.

Aye i think its the samw down here too, no proper FT FEOs, just 1 or 2 polis men that do it inbetween their normal duties

Devolving airgun licensing was a terrible mistake - thank you again to the so-called “Conservative” party for paving the way for this madness

I emailed Firearms Licensing last week, yesterday my AWC fell on the doormat ! It shows you sometimes you have to shake the tree a bit to get things in motion. But all in all through the years of dealing with Police Scotland Firearms Licensing they have been quite good and reasonably fast compared to some horror stories I've heard about departments in England.20260114_145609.webp

That RFD is quite literally breaking the law in Scotland and will be strung up if found out, as will any English person coming into Scotland and buying or otherwise possessing an air weapon without AWC or a visitor permit. You'll get more than a slap on the wrist for that and as it will appear on your criminal record throughout the UK, good luck on renewal if you have SGC or FAC or you'll be lucky to get a first grant of either of those if you don't with a firearms conviction under your belt. Scotland and England are different countries with different legal systems, they always have been always will be; even where statute law may be reserved, Scotland's courts are independent and can interpret said laws different North of the Border (there are a variety of such cases under the Firearms Acts alone). There are a variety of things that are legal or illegal in one country but not the other and it's been like that for centuries. When you cross a border into another country, you have to abide by the laws of that country, even if you don't agree with them. It's never been any different.

What will an English RFD do to upgrade it to an FAC air rifle though? Surely he’ll just write it onto my ticket like I could?
Remember that if you put an air weapon onto your FAC, it becomes a Section 1 firearm and can never be an air weapon again, meaning it can never then be sold or transfered as anything other than a S1 firearm, even if it's never been powered up above 12ftlb. Honestly, there is rarely any point putting an air weapon onto FAC, not least as S1 airguns tend to be worth less than air weapons given the market for them is a lot smaller.
