alternative swede?

I have seen the soft point before.

Norma load, a 156 spr - intended for moose.

I reckon the fmj is meant for bird.
Capercallie shot in the trees during winter, a light stubby fmj in 6.5 was(is?) a very common round for that
Possibly this

Hi,

It is a 5.2 g (80 gr) bullet having Norma index number 66522. Cartridges loaded with the same were offered in the “Jaktmatch” low cost training line with index number 16528.

Regards,

Fede

I shot some thyr (spelling ok ?) from treetops in Norway using Norma Jagdmatch ammunition using a 6.5x55. I was surprised the birds didn’t explode !

I bet you mean "tiur", in Norway that is the male of what they call "storfugl" which litteraly translates to "big bird"

On this theme can anyone shed light on a box of 10 rounds German sporting cartridges that I’ve had for many years, again they are 6.5x55 calibre.

I’m not a cartridge collector and don’t recollect seeing this type of bullet/projectile with the splits in the metal jacket, hopefully someone will tell me what they are designated as, does that make sense ?

Jaktmatch (jagtmatch) by Norma is well known for having poor precision performance. Jaktmatch (6,5) basically a renamed military practise bullet i.e. a bullet for recruits/home guard and paper shooting. But long ago military bullets hade some success and there were no alternatives for the Muaser style rifles. Short distance shots with iron sights fixed plenty of moose ...
Lapua Scenar (6,5/308) is the way to go to hit a bird in a tree 2-300 m out in full winter.

I had some of the Jaktmatch and the results are very variable in my Swedish Mausers - from poor to very poor. 125gr bullet from memory. I also use PPU B-118 156gr soft point (like the second bullet shown) and B-083 139gr HPBT bullets in my rifles and they are pretty accurate - either in factory form or hand loaded.

Regards

Mark
