Somewhere to camp and stalk

My sons and I love bashering up on a friends farm to shoot rabbits and fly fish their beck.

As we plan for spring my son said to me, is there somewhere we could camp and stalk... and honestly I have no idea!

Which brings me here. Is there anyone who would be happy for a dad and son to basher up on their land for a night in order to harvest from their land? Fish, Rabbit or Deer. Of course we would pay our way and as a Mil Survival Instructor we will be discreet and leave no trace.

Plenty of people camp on land where they have stalking rights - especially in Scotland. The challenge, as always, is getting the stalking.

Most estates offering let stalking are less keen on clients camping, though again, in Scotland there’s actually nothing they can do to stop you.

The estate I guide on has one regular client who happily pitches his tent in a meadow. We meet him there in the morning and stalk from there. He always seems very happy, if occasionally a little damp or chilly!

So I suppose one option is to book some stalking on a Scottish estate, and rather than staying in a B&B, cottage or hotel, you could camp.

I suppose where you are and how far you'll travel has an impact.
There's plenty of people travel for syndicate grounds who stalk the day camp overnight so they can stalk in the morning.

Thanks. Roof tents are NOT my thing. Lol. I cannot see why people would pay a 10x premium to sleep on their car!

The boys and I basher up, sleep on a sleep roll and cook what we kill, or all else fails weve a pocket full of biltong.

Where I hunt I always end up covered in ticks from just stalking through the hillside. I can’t imagine what it would be like to sleep all night in it!

Amorous couple on one of my field stations had a day off together. Everyone else out at work. They decided to christen the hammock. Rope snapped as they neared the crescendo. He was limping quite badly for some time afterwards - very bruised coccyx…

I was the youngest on the site at the time, and very much at the absolute bottom of the pecking order.

This was the same site where a decade later, when I was now in a position of ‘responsibility’, I was woken in the night to be summoned to provide first aid.

Enter the room to find very sorry looking individual cowering on the bed, clutching blood soaked bedding to his crotch.

His partner had been rather too vigorous with her ministrations and snapped his banjo string.

Well I’ve been camping and stalking up Scotland for the last 3 years spring and autumn is amazing winter not so good especially now I’m 69 it’s not the cold that bothers me it the hanging about between stalks whether can be miserable if constantly raining a few of my stalking buddies on the same syndicate have camper vans and recon it’s a game changer ( townies)
Sorry I’m not in a position to offer anything at present regarding hunting but you could just rock up anywhere in Scotland and pitch.
I do know of someone who will take you out and let you pitch a tent and stalk for a fee.
