Last season a number of willows were harvested by the owner and he "topped" the back part of the field which gave the muntjac no room to hide after emerging from the thick cover, this year it won't be topped so later on in the year will be more productive when it dies back!
A pair were milling around which the thermal could see but no chance of a shot so I retreated back to the middle of the field marked by the old ditch line, a third cut the corner which is always a good spot but also tall cover.
Over time the never stop moving Muntjac break cover so it is just a waiting game, this time it was around 15 mins as a hot head showed just above the long grass, the recent rains have produced a new crop of meadow grass which the 3 hares to my right were feeding on.
He was on a mission as his gate said not feeding but looking, second time he pulled stepping in to look what made the "bahh" so base of the neck as that moves a lot less than the upper neck was my spot otherwise green soup with any other shot!
Dragged him back to the old ditch line which gives a bit of an incline to let the blood run, waited a while incase anything else (fox) came out back to the clean out tree and home.
No camo tape was used on the mod only silver solder
