Out last night.

Fell off motybike yesterday when I ran out of talent on a steep rocky byeway. Feels very much like I've busted a rib.. that's me not going out for a few days. Actually glad it's raining as I dont have to feel guilty. Made the bad mistake of lying flat in bed last night, getting vertical again for a midnight slash was a bit gnarly, sleeping in the recliner rest of night and next few nights.
Self inflicted so no sympathy deserved!

Ouch, did that a couple of years ago, putting my trousers on! Took weeks 😬

Last night didn't happen, I fell asleep.
So I went out at 06:00 because yesterday the hunt were on a neighbouring place in the morning. In the afternoon a cock pheasant was giving the alarm call , just as I was expecting! The hunt had pushed a fox onto me!
Sure enough there it was curled on a bank side well and truly onto me and slipped into a wood.
Long short is that I ended up with an encounter two hours later but it busted me again 🤦.
I'll put some grub out for it today to see if it's hanging around.
Treated myself to a pixfra siriarse 650s. Very impressive.

Here (Sweden) winter fox shooting is 'high time'. Moon light and white snow just now. Photo of my preferred spot. Have an arm chair high up on the low hill beyond where the car is parked in the photo. To the right of the dog there are various 'fox food treats' incl a recently shot boar skin which is tied to tree stump.
Anyway, 4 foxes down at this spot this season so far. They never come directly to the food station but approach in any direction and making circles which makes it a challenge with tripods. Camera near the feeding place. Usually appear 2 hr after sunset. Thermal spotter see them way out.

I was the wrong side of a valley when I saw him and he wasn't interested in the caller so I headed back to the car and buzzed off to another farm. Never saw anything there so went to the farm across the valley doubting I will see any fox by then.
Bugger me he is curled having a snooze at 256yds. Iake ten and snap a twig, better check. Now he is sitting up so I freeze.
I give a blast on the caller and he gets up, has a stretch and makes for the pit hole to come around the back to eventually get my wind!
In the video you will see the said pit hole and the woodcock departing after the shot.

Nearly forgot, he stopped the Norma bullet!

NOOOOO
Dont do that!

I think it is very noble of them to secretly be supporting our sport by providing targets
Fair lol. One night i shot 11 foxes in half an hour in one big field next to the m11. Given I shoot that farm weekly this had to be a charity drop. They didn’t known they were doing. Was excellent target practice

Out Sat night with a guy who contacted me on this fine forum. Recently moved to the area and wanted to get back into shooting...and I do try and help people where I can. Nice guy, polite and just happy to be out. The only issue was when I told him I owned a Creed he seemed reluctant to be in front of me

Over to the first farm and headed to the one field that yields the best results as the foxes seem to cross it from the neighbouring farms. Set the caller up but the brook behind made it impossible to hear if it was on mute or playing ...looked behind us and there was a fox against the hedge but no safe shot..typically it headed around the back of us and then winded us so I thought that was it. I gave Matt the thermal and asked him to keep an eye out and let me know if the fox reappeared...which it did. Got behind the rifle and dropped him at about 200 yards. Headed over to pick the fox up and bring it back.

Called for a bit and spotted another fox heading across the field. I asked Matt if he want to shoot it and he obliged. Fox dropped on the spot to a well placed shot at just shy of 200 yards.

Dog fox that I shot is below...Matt got a photo of his so hopefully he may post it on here at some point. No 6 for me.

I only noticed the injury on his lower back when I looked at the photo as I wasnt paying much attention at the time...possibly caught getting under some tin zinc or similar. Drew a blank on the next 2 farms but plenty of lapwings about and a few owls so nice to be out
