No a dig but a question. Are you shooting them inside a fence? At a glance, judging by the number of carcass tags hanging from the hook on the wall by my chopping block, I should say the season is going pretty well for me, although I haven't actually compared this years written record with last years at this stage.
Some of them.No a dig but a question. Are you shooting them inside a fence?
So ABL starts a post on the subject of how everyone's Hind/Doe management is going? Some of them.
Not shot any females in the park yet this season, but I do need to take out a few.

Thank you.My apologies then oricle Tim.
It breaks the monotony of days butchering carcasses, and it's also a nice way to pass the time when sitting in a highseat.I surmised incorrectly going by how much time you spend on here.
It would, so don't.It would be rude of me to ask how many, so i wont..

Shoot the doe then the two kidsI've not had the best start too the year up until the last three days where the deer have been a lot more visible.
Managed too get this nice barren doe today with a lot of bloody effort into getting her out of this **** hole terrain I dont recommend, I'm personally under the motto though gas costs money and whilst my mate would rather drive around for weeks until one Is within shooting distance when we go 5 weeks without even seeing deer 300 yrds from the road I'll put the effort in.
Kind of curious why there's no kids with her seems pretty weird, front two biting teeth missing and a little stained but still pretty white, pregnant but no signs of any nursing in recent months at all older doe that's taken a break year perhaps?
As expected on our way back the deer we've not seen since the rut were in the lovely green field! I need too verify the distance of that field, I'm pretty confident shots are around 160-170 yards rather than 220y he keeps going on about
Better question though the "Green field" doe has two kids what would you take in that situation? I'm not apposed too shooting a doe this time of year but Its more-so the sake of If another stands for a shot, I dont feel like Its fair on the deer too shoot a doe & sibling and leave one, on the other side those two kids produce a much nicer carcass when there a year or two old, especially if there bucks.

When you had the quiet spell with not seeing any deer, was that in the morning or afternoon? I haven't been out for a while but friends say that the cold easterly wind has kept them in the cover. They've said the mornings have been very quiet and afternoon movement is not until last light.I've not had the best start too the year up until the last three days where the deer have been a lot more visible.

I was out last week a few times and on ground where i know there are Roe and nothing seen. The nithering Easterly wind was blowing and i was in relatively sheltered spots as much for my own comfort as well as the thought that the deer would do the same.haven't been out for a while but friends say that the cold easterly wind has kept them in the cover. They've said the mornings have been very quiet and afternoon movement is not until last light.
Am I right in thinking you’re under no pressure to reduce numbers on that ground ?I've not had the best start too the year up until the last three days where the deer have been a lot more visible.

Im down this weekend so hoping theres some hinds around, supposed to be decent weather tomorrow.I'm personally under the motto though gas costs money and whilst my mate would rather drive around for weeks until one Is within shooting distance when we go 5 weeks without even seeing deer 300 yrds from the road I'll put the effort in.![]()
The thread is "does" but as seasons change (and yes they are) also the food availability has changed with a lot of farms opting for wild bird area planting payment, those areas are left alone as they do not visit them as they would if it was a harvested crop as there is no incentive. That was the point of question at the start of this thread. It sounds like generally numbers are down - not for everyone, but a majority going by the returns here. Unless it picks up soon that's going to mean a spike in numbers this year.
All outings recently are 8-3pm, so that would make sense. When you had the quiet spell with not seeing any deer, was that in the morning or afternoon? I haven't been out for a while but friends say that the cold easterly wind has kept them in the cover. They've said the mornings have been very quiet and afternoon movement is not until last light.
Yeah not really we shoot does during winter season more for the meat rather than actually reducing numbers, so shooting kids isn't particularly wanted, why we also like too leave the bucks kids since with the Scotland seasons It effectively gives us from April/December for the spikers.Am I right in thinking you’re under no pressure to reduce numbers on that ground ?
