Found this in the freezer a while back from last year must admit I do have a soft spot for malformed heads taxidermist who’s doing me the skull showed me the hole in one side clean through one of the bases possibly some kind of infection

Well wrinkled central suture too I expect; early season was it?
Yes if I remember right it was first couple of weeks of buck season oddly he still had a bit of velvet around the bases

He possibly felt he didn’t have to try too hard!
I’ve seen a cold spell slowing up or stopping the cleaning process, judging by his age that would have been in early March, he has a bit of colour, but not later season darkness.
Once took one with leathery velvet hanging in dry curled strips off just above the coronets.
I also wondered at the time if the fact that he was a malform and there was that much mass at the bases with the coronets pretty much touching if it prevented him from cleaning off properly
