Schultz and Larsen Legacy 6.5 Grendel bolt face question

Hi All,

I am interested in the S&L Legacy in 6.5 Grendel. What I can't figure out is whether it uses the same bolt face as the rest of the calibres offered with this model. Before I pester Alan Rhone or S&L I just wanted to check if any of the great and the good on here might already know.

From what I have read it appears only one bolt is available for the Legacy, but i can't figure out how that can be, given the .220 Russian donor case has a wider diameter case head.

Grateful for any knowledge you might be able to impart!

Thanks,
Jon

I didn't know they offered the Grendel in the Legacy. I just checked and you are right. It must be a somewhat recent change.

I have had my Legacy (in .222rem) for maybe 7yrs or so. The bolt head definitely will not accept the case head of a .220 russian which is over 11mm. I just checked mine and it is only just north of 9.6mm inline with the case head on .222/.223 etc.

It must be a different bolt face

That's great information - thanks so much for checking mate! They must offer a different bolt for it, but the marketing material hasn't yet changed.

Thanks again!

I spoke with SL about this some time ago along with 7 prc, you will need a different bolt, and reg. the 7 prc also new bottom metal and magazine.

I’d personally have a 6.5G built on a Sako action with an internal double stack magazine.

Are you sure that it is the 6.5 Grendel?
They now chamber the 6.5x47 Lapua in the Classic and the Victory.
They also chamber the 6x45 in the Legacy but I have seen no info on a Grendel chambering.

Thanks John. This rifle is the Legacy, which is their dedicated short action rifle, so there are fewer variables to consider - magazine and bolt seems to be what's needed for the .300 blk. There was a cracking Sako s/s laminate varmint in 6PPC on guntrader the other day. It was snapped up pretty quick!
