Drop off in rabbit numbers.

Hasn’t been shoot able numbers here for nearly 10 years, as soon as they start to build up rhd wipes them out, a couple of dozen on the 900 acres next door used to be hundreds… not helped by my cocker pegging one yesterday …

Barely any around me in Sussex. I wouldn't shoot one know if I was asked to. If I see a pair on my place I immediately try and reduce predators in the local area to give them a chance. Doesn't seem to help much though. On the upside there are more hares around there have been in decades.

Its sad really, I grew up and learnt a huge amount hunting rabbits. Its going to be hard for my boy to learn the same things so easily

I’m a fairly handy rifle shot these days and I swear that learning to shoot rabbits off sticks in my 20s trained me well- hope they come back in numbers by the time my son needs to learn rifle handling.

I travel around Scotland with my work.

The roads that I travelled in my youth no longer have rabbits as the main road kill, in fact when I travelled some of the roads last week there were none.

Instead there were more badgers lying dead on the road side.

I also spoke to Simon Whitehead at the Scone Gamefair in 2024.
He reckoned the rabbit population had dropped from 60M to around 20M.

Still finding some good sustainable numbers, but a couple of farms still haven’t bounced back 🙏 hopefully find some new small pockets later in the year 👍

The badgers could be something to do with Calving season…

I see more deer as road kill now more than anything else.

Just started to re appear in numbers in the village ( not on our estate just adjacent fields). Will just have to make sure we keep a few but not a large number should they invade us.

North Yorks is a big area and those bunnies are spread out , much of it will be without any Rabbits at all . VHD and Mixy take more than shooters and ferreters anyhow.
Certainly in the Yorkshire dales and NY moors is plagued with them, mixy seems to come in every year when the weather cools off round sept Oct time, like I said previously it takes the cream off but never seems to have a big hit on the population
