Rabbitting

My ongoing battle with the long eared crop munchers is never ending!

Ove the last 3 years ive taken roughly 1400-1500 rabbits of my patch......and they just keep coming, so I keep the pressure on them, I'd hate to think what damage they would cause if I had not actively shooting them all year round

It's getting difficult now the crops are coming up and the grass hides them from thermal but im lucky that I can shoot the surrounding land which is made up of horse paddocks so seeing them is no bother.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on mate and I will throw my sessions results on here

Has anyone been asked for rabbit ears 🤷‍♂️ . Had at least 4 people asking for them a said as a chew they said no
There a natural wormer …..
av had dogs ferrets & few horses most ma life & this is a new one on me 🤷‍♂️

Last night lil haul one field about an hour ish
Could of been more but the bungalow is no the best back stop ✋ 🤣
All shot with the humble Annie in .22
Nicely done mate, lovely little .22lr you have there.

My mate had been supplying them to a few people, he dries them out and gives them to dog owners, he was telling me last week and I was like what the F🤣 i count chuffed with the carry on in doing that

I used to have a cracking rabbit perm, shot tons and made a good few quid along the way. Farmer used to meet me and offload his quad for me to bez around knocking them over. Sadly came to an end when the land was sold. Still have a golf course and other bits but not that prolific.

I used to do a fair bit of bunny stalking with my air rifle on Hope Mountain in North Wales. Great fun and almost free food. Especially Persian saffron yogurt and onion skewers.

rabbit numbers go up and down , was out rabbiting before i got into infant school with the ferrets and dogs and snares . then with airguns then shotguns as i hit my teens . Now i like big bag now and again but the numbers go up and down mixy , VHD etc . We have Rabbits here at home but i am am waiting for the little scuttlers to get grown to a reasonable eating size . Its a shame so many folks do not take them for human consumption anymore , its good eating way better tasting than factory hens .
I find a days or night hunting rabbits way better than any driven birds personally .

Thanks for replies guys but this thread is about future rabbitting forays not the past as trying to gauge populations around the country.

We all know that numbers were plenty in the past but its a different story now

I went out tonight after supper, just because it was a lovely evening and partly to help kick off this thread. Arrived just after sunset, 2030 and shot for an hour. Accounted for 16 rabbits but only picked 11 but they are only going for fix bait with it being a Sunday. Was good fun, I didn’t work the dogs onto retrieves in adjacent fields but allowed them to sweep up at the end. First rabbit was a black one.

Would have had more with better glass. The Hawke struggled again, had to get dark to use the Pard.

Had a quick look for an hour before it got dark, more to gauge numbers there, pleasant evening, seem to be several young about now. Grass will soon be too tall until they cut it for silage, get an evening or 2 before they realise then

If you need to find a home for the headshot coneys,I'll take them for my 8 ferrets, bloody eat me out of house & home...If we meet up,I'll be able to return your annealed. 223 brass that I've had for 3yrs!!

Used to ferret and walk up around 200 in a day with four Guns. The winter of 2010-2011 did for the most of them around here, though they had been on the decline well before then too.

Best day was 135 to two Guns, bolting them with ferrets. Great sport.

A think we’re fairly lucky up here in Northumberland/ Durham we have high ground no easy accessible with vehicles even pick up
Quads / gators . So we have to use shanksys pony to get to where the rabbits are .
Think that helps the rabbits some what
Am getting old now so the high ground seems to get higher 🥵🥵
But a keep plodding on
