Night shooting deer under CL55 - Police Notifications

Times have evolved mate , bit noisy and most people dont have a quad.

Thermal and nv with HMR much better and more covert 😎
I reckon if we had to notify the police of shooting at night you would have a dedicated officer

Dear Northern Police Force ... I will be out shooting most nights for the rest of the year on most farms in the NE :)

Glos police have directly confirmed that they require these notifications 24 hrs before every use - they raise an incident number and roughly 50:50 of the times, I’m sent a copy of it. A&S have never directly acknowledged any of the email notifications sent to them as my FLD (bar the automatic acknowledgment email and the separate one advising on renewal issues) until earlier this week when I received an email questioning me whether I was off the ground.

Having direct comms I asked whether I could drop their notifications as the stalked ground is outside of the AOR as a was waste of their time, but I was advised in direct terms to continue as I had been doing for every instance (sorry @75 hopefully yours may be different) and he went on to confirm that their control, room similarly raises an Incident Number.

So having now having had direct comms with both the stalked area force and the separate FLD force, I’ll continue with what I’ve been doing 🙇🏻‍♂️

I’m sure that’s how it’ll pan out around here too but I suspect I’ll make many more notifications than visits. Fickle weather forecast and local conditions on the hills mean I often can’t be certain of going until a few hours before (not 24).

Working out that I’m taking fallow or muntjac on every outing so far reliant upon BBC weather forecast 🤗 Last Saturday was yet another 😁

the more we accept nonsense such as this the more likely it will .....
I am assuming you mean the nonsense is the need for notifying the police...rather then my response :)

I wholly agree it would be nonsense to need to notify the police for night shooting anything other then deer but this has been going on for 40+ years so I dont think there will be any desire to change the current situation .

I do agree that it makes no real sense with the CL55 side but its a new thing so no real surprise they added it in to "placate" some interested party or other.

I am in a similar boat. Warwickshire are yet to respond to any of my notifications (as my FLD). West Mercia however have been varied in their responses. Majority of the time I hear nothing. I have had two call backs so far, one just clarifying what I was doing with rough times and another which requested firearm details that I would have with me and also requested I call 101 when I was finished to inform them I was off the ground.

Bit of a pain in the arse once you have been dealing with half a dozen fallow in the middle of the night but a relatively quick task (Once you are off hold that is)

i wish i shared your optimism , personally i think slippery slope .....

It may be misplaced but I have to try and have some optimism given the issues we face 👍 I agree its a slippery slope and dont think things will improve ...
Things won’t improve the only way you’re gonna control their numbers is my shooting all female Deer on sight, just like muntjac!

Before anybody gives me the dependent spiel, nobody seems to care about muntjac do they?
