It’s a buzzard.
The zoomed in pic pretty much confirms it.
Yes looking again i agree

I have to say i'd be very surprised if it was a buzzard - there are loads round here, and they're much browner - a friend said that buzzards are sometimes very white, but then have a white head, whereas this bird's head was definitely dark grey. It’s a buzzard.

An osprey is bigger than a buzzard, different body shape, and it’s certainly not a peregrine
Yes, it was getting a bit dark by the time it flew off but I don't think it flew like a buzzard, or a gull come to that - its flight was more direct than a buzzard.Did you get a half decent view of it flying a buzzard looks like a buzzard and you will have seen loads an osprey looks almost like a gull
Unfortunately it was too far away for me to see its eyes. He's going off my pics.Did you see distinctive orange eye? Osprey more yellow.
is your buddy going from your pics or did he see it IRL?

Alamy could get shirty with youView attachment 473053pale phase buzzard a great shout
It is definitely not a goshawk, its chest would be barred.I have to say i'd be very surprised if it was a buzzard - there are loads round here, and they're much browner - a friend said that buzzards are sometimes very white, but then have a white head, whereas this bird's head was definitely dark grey.

Goshawks don’t always have orange eyes, mostly yellow but some become redder as they get older.Did you see distinctive orange eye? Osprey more yellow.
Oh yes it is…….Its not a buzzard
I don't think there is one anywhere near - I'm guessing the nearest would be at Blenheim, but I don't know how many fish there are in it! We have the Evenlode and Windrush not far, but thanks to Thames Water they're not exactly full of fish....My opinion where' is the nearest water/lake with decent size fish? If' an Osprey they roost close, usually in sight of the water. Possible Pale Buzzard.
BC.
This was definitely not hiding, it was quite exposed. Its not a Gos or a peregrine. Gos is very secretive and won't be seen perching in full view. Peregrine tend to perch at the top of the highest point available.
I think it's a buzzard but may be a honey buzzard.
