Purchased a used zulus1 5x20 ,cannot find where it says vcsel or led ,and doesn't,t show in the menu where it is.Any ideas.

think all v1 were led, not sure if it can be upgraded to vcsel, but hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will be along to help you.

Hmmmm. Unless you are shooting at more than 350 or so you won’t need anything other than the “brilliant” onboard IR.

Tried finding in settings, doesn't,t show anything
In the menu is a section for IR, when you go into that you select either LED or VCSL. If the IR is working now, that will then indicate which one is fitted. Not teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs but you know not to look into the IR lense when it is on, it can cause serious damage to your eyes

If its LED itsPi5h!!!! Picture at 100 yds or further was grainy as hell...350yds .? Not a hope!

My brother has 3x 12 ..
I have 5x20 ...both lrf
.out on rabbits he was moaning site picture was crap!... I looked thru it was compared to mine ... looking at same thing ...looked at his IR, it had LED on it in white writing on side ... mine does not ....
Spoke to Bruce when he was still on the go and I got hold of another IR VCSEL, went up to Bruce and he showed me how to swap em...
Went out again and tried the unit ....transformed !!! Waaaay better

Yeah. But is your IR VCSEL or LED???

Never said I couldn't see foxes at 300yds with my 5x20 (vcsel)....bit with a 3x12 led IR V1 it would have been a fuzzy blur

As far as I am aware the Arkens V1 3-12 is 850 VCSEL as is the 5-20. I can’t vouch for the IR range on the 3-12 model as never used one but I don’t get why the IR picture would be poorer on the smaller mag Arkens?
I believe the DNTs IRs were upgraded though to be honest I have both and think the V1 IR is better….
“The DNT ZULUS V2 HD is a compact, high-performance digital day/night vision scope featuring a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, built-in 850nm/940nm VCSEL IR, 1920x1080 Micro-OLED, and a 1,000m Laser Rangefinder with ballistic calculation. It offers ~10 hours of battery life via 21700 cells and is available in 3-12x or 5-20x magnification, improving upon V1 with better controls and higher resolution”.

Early V1's were LED. Those branded Arken rather than DNT certainly. I believe some later V1's had VCSEL fitted as standard but there was a VCSEL PIL available to purchase. As already said the outer rim of the PIL is the easiest way to tell. If there is a "L" then it's a LED PIL.

Not so, the early ones were all VCSEL, both my Arkens are 100% VCSEL, this is why the Zulus took off at a fantastic rate of knots because the IR was so good and gave such a good image.
The option to swap out the pils came about later iirc around the time the 3-12 was launched.

Maybe it's the 312 I'm think of. My 2 certainly came with LED PIL's !
I have an Arken version, a DNT V1 and a DNT V2 and one of them came new with an LED pill and it was fine for close quarters but useless at distance so aquired a VCSL world apart, also have a 950 VCSL as I noticed the rabbits were spooked by the 850
