MDT 10 round steel mag problem

It would seem iv had nothing but problems with mags recently,
so to combat my Begara 223 mag being crap, and me melting it to try get it to work, i bit the bullet and bought the 10 round AICS mdt steel mag,
worked ok for the first dozen shots, now all it does is slide over the top of the round, no doubt im going to have to do more F king around with it, potentially risking messing it up.

any ideas please, ffs

Load 5 and see if it does the same as 10 will compress the spring a lot more and for god's sake don't start with the tin snips

What bottom metal are you using?
Have you previously dressed the magazine latch for the other magazines?
I know with my Atlasworx bottom metal I had to dress the length of the latch to get the magazines to engage the latch. It does tell you to do this on the instructions anyway.

Yours may have been dressed too far and now doesn't let the new magazine sit in far enough for the bolt to pick up the rounds

it sounds like your mag isn't presenting quite high enough in the action , first port of call is the mag catch , maybe try resting the rifle on the mag and cycling the bolt to see if the upwards pressure presents the round better , if so the mag catch will need fettling

i run aics on a lot of my rifles and always left the mags standard and adjusted the rifles to suit so all my mags are then interchangeable between rifles , adjusting the mags can then make them rifle specific and thats more admin i don't need!

Good evening Mr Burrows:D i have the atlasworx too, not done anything with the latch, it picks up the odd round, but more often than not, i have to press the tip of the round down before it will pick it up

I’m guessing this gap shouldn’t be present as Iv just tried my begara polly mag and that sits flush??View attachment 475151
Does the mag click in properly to the mag latch as you are showing there?

It actually looks as though the mag is sitting too far in there and possibly the bolt is hitting the back of the feed lips and jumping over the bullet.

Put the mag in without any rounds, and cycle the bolt while looking into the ejection port and see if it is clipping the feed lips and causing the bolt to jump a bit

If so you'll likely need to dress down the magazine latch bit by bit until it feeds properly

it doesn’t seem to be catching the feed lips. Definitely not at the back. Maybe a bit 2 thirds along. It seems to be just couching up to the back of the round. But then sliding over the top IMG_8666.webp

How do I go about dressing down the mag latch.
You know what I’m like. 🙈
Very gently mate.
I used a grinding stone on a small Dremel.

First I marked of the latch 1mm down from where it is currently and dressed a little off at a time and rechecked as I went until it fed nicely.

I'll give you a call tomorrow and we can talk it thru

that sound best, at £80 i dont want to mess this one up. it does seem that if i put a bit of pressure on the mag it feeds better, but its only going in an extra mm,,

That extra bit will make all the difference.
As said in a message, the feed lips sometimes need a small tweek to let the round sit higher at the back

Don't grind or adjust anything just yet Mr impatient 🤣
