Night Shooting Notifications (Police) - changed

Mmmm ....never notified em up here in Angus.... asked FEO about that once ..his reply ..."why"?
They didn't want the hassle

I notified GMP a couple of times when shooting a golf course that bordered housing. The second time the call handler told me she didn’t like the sound of that (shooting rabbits) and a friend was visited by armed response one day even though he notified the control room pre shooting, based on these factors I never bothered again.

I’d only ever do that if it was a requirement of a licence. Always done it for deer, never for rabbits.

That’s exactly my point the more we put up with the nonsense the worse it gets
Ah! I see! You mean what’s the difference from the perspective of the police?

Yes. Totally agree. Why would they make it a condition of a night licence when you can perfectly legally go on to lamping foxes later that night with exactly the same equipment on exactly the same land.

That’s it ,but then it gives the “ best practice “ hero’s a chance for another course 🤷🏼

Not having a standardised procedure south of the border is effectively leaving the decision up to the shooter. Less regulations is always a good thing!

Although there are those that always tell the police and those that never do, the best practice (I think, others will differ) is as a standard, don't tell them. But if you intend shooting in an area which is bound to result on calls to the cops, then it's worth considering telling them. At least then if someone calls them, the police have the option to assess the situation and hopefully act (or not) accordingly. Often a call to the shooter by the police can suffice.

You used to phone the local cops which was OK easy and sensible. Then along came 101, this, at times took ages to get through and often a silly question or two would have to be answered, all the time you are looking at the clock. Emailing was fine but at the end of a night shoot having to open a laptop up to close the activity was a pita. Hopefully this will be quicker and hassle free

If I ever go lamping foxes with Dad he always insists we log with the police (UK) its such a pain. Takes 45+ mins sometimes on a Friday/Saturday night. Asked about doing it online once and was told to use the form for a event, procession or protest, which was a no go due to notice required. I would happily email or log with them if there was a specific form or address. Id rather not get hassle while I'm out.
