I'm looking to buy my first moderator for a .308. I'm thinking of getting a ASE SL5I. Other options are the ASE Jet Z, SL7I, DPT, Wildcat or a Freyr & Devik Would love to hear everyone else's thoughts?

I’ve used wildcat evolution its quite quiet and goes over the barrel , it can also be fully stripped for cleaning and maintenance, and I think it’s a good mod but like all things its users preference.

The only thing with the wildcat evolution is that with it being over the barrel marking the barrel might be a risk rather then screwing on the end like the ASE mods

Also if you buy extra insides for the wildcat evolution it can be interchangeable on calibres so it’s not just for one gun - (always a good excuse to get another rifle)😏🤣

Also the ASE are more compact so if your concerned about space range bag or if you have it in rifle case might be a more suitable option

The Evo has a nylon bush in the rear that you can remove and bore out, giving a clearance fit over the barrel so alleviating any contact/marking.

Pointless receiving advice without those giving it knowing what you intend to do with it- will it be on a light rifle likely to be carried for miles up mountains before having a shot or two put through it, or on a range queen firing hundreds of rounds a day?

Your right I should have said. It will be for stalking in lowland England so no crazy amounts of walking involved.

The ASE SL5i is a cracking little mod, I use one on my .308 stalking rifle (it also doubled up for use on a 6.5cm when I had it). Good sound moderation and recoil reduction in a very compact and lightweight package. I have a cordura cover on mine.

I have a DPT on my 308, plus wildcat and a freyr for other calibres. DPT is light and compact, which helps getting the rifle on and off the sticks for woodland stalking. Wildcat is good but heavier and better on recoil. Freyr is expensive and works, by far the lightest and bought for a hill rifle setup.

Hqs make some good stuff. I also rate the Stalon VR. The Wildcat Evolution is heavy and loud in comparison.
