Fair point...but seem to see more hedgehogs where there are decent numbers of foxes and not many where there are decent numbers of badgers. I do appreciate that this is hardly scientific![]()
Loads and i mean loads of badgers on ours

You have those vegan badgers by the look of itLoads and i mean loads of badgers on ours
I never really noticed hedgehogs (unless they were on the roads or lanes) when I used to lamp but with thermal you can see so much more stuff ...frankly I love watching them scuttle about...wish they would be a bit more sensible on the roads. I mentioned it previously but I was heading out shooting and a hedgehog just carried on up the lane and wouldnt turn left or right. I stopped and picked it up and placed it behind the truck. What did gratitude look like.....it ****ed all over my hand...charmingYes agree with your point …,Thermal being more accessible and used by more ..maybe they are being highlighted much more!
Yes mate....off the forum as a member.Any body know why @Nickb is quiet
Ederly lady farmer lost a chook on Monday so a quick daylight visit yesterday and the scene of the fowl (!) deed was very obvious - 20 yards from her yard - a primary feather confirmed ID so out last nite for a mooch about in very bright moonlight.
10 minutes of calling with the wee gizmo and a very definite heat source appeared over the brow of the hill about 150 from me but such was the moonlight it quickly clocked me before moving off. Bugger….
Walked across the road into the cut silage fields - always a good place to be and sure enough two heat signatures in the small field which adjoins a very old laneway which over the years has been very productive for me. To keep out of the moonlight I had to stay in the two feet tall uncut grass but sylph-like as ever mounted the sainted triple deuce and quickly picked up two cubs against the far hedge - one lying down and the other mousing in the margins. Quick acquisition of the mouser with the Zulus V2 and a gentle squeeze of the trigger…. Damned thing jumped two feet in the air so I swung left to shoot the other cub - only it had gone! Back to the high jumper and it was behaving as though nothing had happened so a second shot dropped it stone dead…
I couldn’t believe how I had missed this fox; replay defo confirmed I was on target but drop it did not - very odd!
Anyhoo, decided to try more calling and with the first squeak this demon came hurtling out of the hedge full steam in my direction to the extent that I could see it by moonlight not 10 yards away before it did a u turn and headed back from whence it came. Unfortunately the very long grass preventing me pivoting completely stopped me from getting a shot but I did see this….
Bugger #2!
Gave it another 10 then decided it was my bedtime so into the mitsu and homeward… Three fields along the road a very clear fox was heading along the back hedge - directly towards the cubs I had seen - parent with food says I so in best The Sweeney (junior members - ask your parents) I reversed the three hundred yards and drove into the field below the cubs. A quick grab of everything and a twenty yard dash put me in shadow in a corner opposite where I anticipated the homeward fox might emerge - nada!
More in hope than despair a brief handcall and again a fox came hurtling towards me - brief quack or two and it stopped about 80 off and obligingly dropped to the shot - #2!
Happy bunny, happy lady farmer but I still have to get the first one - far too close to the farm….
