For making shark fishing chum. Anyone got bright ideas? Salmon, trout heads, guts, frame etc all welcome, any factory trimmings and so on. Seen some for sale here and there but never do the right quantities or delivery etc.

Either in Sussex or to send by post frozen. Just can’t get the quantity fishing at the moment.

Even if you have a load of unloved trout or mackerel at the bottom of your freezer, anything like that.

Something like 10-20kg so not loads.

Thank you!

Last time I went for blues, pal got a 10litre tub of blood from a slaughterhouse and a 25kg bag of bran.

Mix on the boat with a bit of fresh chopped up mackerel.

Well yes and no….

Fishing off Alderney, we had 6 proper heavy duty shark rods & Penns out on balloons and livebait mackerels out at different depths in the drift.

Drift was quite slow, so a couple of the lads put out 20lb class scratching rods for turbot on the bottom - not long after a decent hook up bending the rod to the butt and stripping an entire spool of line. Experience angler, but simply no way of stopping it.

Nothing on the balloon baits tho.

I’ll be focussing on making fish related stuff I reckon! Thank you though.

Any fish processing factories near you?. My mate used to collect a barrel of fish that they considered too damaged to use ( usually sardines). Then mash it with bran and freeze. Worked a treat in fine netting bags for blues.

Id recommend a premium sealing barrel. And if possible put it in a trailer rather than in the car.
I’ll be freezing into 5kg blocks and transporting frozen in a cool box. Judging by the flies when I made a batch yesterday I’ll know quite quickly if I’ve done it wrong!

Will

In the 70's fishing off SW Eire we used the trimmings from fish caught the day before (2 week trip) that was mixed with bran and a oil to act as a slick double bagged in a hessian sack. It worked with Dad catching a 85lb Blue Shark, not huge but it was registered with the Harbour Master as the first Blue shark caught with Rod/Line other fish that trip 145/90lb common skate tope and all the usual stuff on feathers.
Quite exciting as an11 year old holding rods passing gaffs seeing fish come over the side.

Try morrisons fish counter and see what you can get .We call in to get bits for crabbing with the grand kids.

I used to use fish heads and guts in bait stations for attracting foxes. It was excellent bait in the fields nr the river dee estuary
