It was until started talking about shooting at varmints hundreds of yards away. I bought a pistol calibre carbine for close range shooting. And for long range precision work I use other rifles
And by the way, I started this thread. And the point of starting this thread was to show my close range pistol calibre carbine

Could be said about alot of firearms unfortunately. I bought three JMs back before prices shot up. Don’t think I paid more than $360 for any of them. A new 336 and barely shot Guide Gun. And a vintage 35 Rem. Should have bought 12 more. Ha. Only really regret not getting a JM 357 or 44. Now would have to pay through the nose for what I’d want. The new Rugers are pretty good really. But for that price you can still find occasionally a used JM in great shape.
Actually a 94 from Ruger in either cartridge is on my list. Ruger makes them in my state about an hour away. So it would be cool to have it stamped North Carolina. Ruger is making pretty good marlins now. Not the same as Marlin back in the day but better than Remlins. They are appealing to a more modern audience. So I will prolly get a stainless with laminate stock.
