'Dr. Bronners' liquid soap with lavender oil. Splash squeezed into a damp flannel wiped over dog and my own bare skin and trouser legs before entering the woods keeps the majority of them away with no toxic effects to the dog or toxic residue transferred to the environment.
I don't dose the Dog , I just go over it with the tick fork . Only once i got a real motherload on both and me . Took up half a day picking the dog clean and then went to Hospital ( ended up in there a little more than a week ) My wife and youngest Daughter had to do more sessions before I got back .
I still don't use more than I tick fork but i am now wise enough to now stay away from land that's really swarming.
Stopped that treatment a long time ago, can't say no tick burden around here but the dogs are in the river blackwater from Oct to Feb
