Any professionals out there that do this for a profession ,get their chiller racking system load tested ?

Are you looking at this from a LOLER perspective in relation to the hoists and rails etc?

The company I work for has a lot of lifting equipment and we have it inspected every 6 or 12 months (depending on its designation) by a "competent person" who tends to be an inspector from Allianz Engineering. The equipment is inspected rather then load tested.

I suppose a lot is going to come down to your risk assessment and the consequence of the failure of said lifting equipment etc.

Couple of points to consider :

1) What is the rail system rated at by the supplier/manufacturer?
2) Is the rail installed as per the supplier/manufacturers guidance?

In reality if the Safe Working Load is well in excess of what you are going to load then I dont really think its reasonable to expect that you will actually load test the system based on that weight. For example if you get a 1 tonne hoist, correctly install it, follow suppliers guidance on use, pre inspect, replace if defective etc, its not necessary to load test it at 1 tonne.

We only use small scale stuff but none of our FLTS, racking, d shackles, bow shackles or straps are ever load tested...just inspected at the required intervals mentioned above, and we always work within the SWL ...which to be fair is well below the breaking point on most things for obvious reasons.

Why? As per your other thread, what are you trying to achieve? If you don't know what your rails will hold then you first need a structural engineer to do the calcs before you load test. Load testing company will only do what you ask of them (i.e. please certify this lifting beam to SWL of 5 tonne). They won't tell you what weight your rails will take.
 
so might potentially be buying through work a second hand chiller that has a rail
System in it and a winch ,
Ive been asked if it’s been load tested ?
It is a good point I don’t know if it has ??
I do know the rail system has had 40plus fallow on it so it’s strong ! But how do I prove that for work ?
Health and safety is a big thing and correct in the workplace .
I have no doubt it’s strong enough but need to prove it .
