CZ 457 or older CZs and Brnos

I hope you've had a good weekend so far,

Is the CZ 457 series of rimfire rifles really better and worth it over the older CZ 455/453/452 models,

Are the older models better built than current production, perform better than the new ones ?

Just wanting people's thoughts

Depends on your definition of better.

Better in accuracy - no I would say.

Better in bolt smoothness, trigger pull and safety catch etc yes.

Better in longevity - probably not given the use of plastic parts compared to the older stuff. The old ones are certainly very rugged anyway

Better in model choice, after market parts, stocks etc yes definitely

457s new are obviously more expensive than 452/455s

For bunny bashing etc I would probably not bother with a brand new457 if I got get a decent second hand 452.

Just from aesthetics the older generation models look better in longevity,

Apologies I should of added context that I just think they don't justify their price tag as the high end cz rimfires are now Centrefire rifle money new and used,

The new LRP is quite nice and looks the part though,

Yeah agreed 452/453/455s on the used market is what I will be looking at when the time comes, more so the 452-453 models.

I have both the 457 and a C&G Certus, (455 in a nice stock, see below) and a 455 16" stainless synthetic. Whilst the 457 is a very good rifle in many respects, the 455 and its earlier incarnations are to me what a .22lr is all about.

Loads of us brought up on the 452s and i must have had 6 over the tears 2 x 17hmr, 3 x22lr and a 22 wmr, all pretty much faultless, swopped about a bit for a cz512 which was good, and a 455 17 hmr, now another 455 17 hmr and a 22lr barrel which with the 455 you can swop,and a 455 wmr but still got 2 x 22s, just go to pest guns, i know theres other stuff but you cant go wrong theres even loads of the older cz 22lr rimfires about on racks, tried and tested cz gota love it.

I bought my 455 lux 10 years ago, £320 brand new, im sure the 457 would probably be near double that now. Its like anything feed it with ammo it like and you cant go wrong.

The 457 trigger is easier to improve over the older models. I like both. The 457 has plastic bolt parts where as the older models don't.

I have a 65 year old BRNO .22It will put all 10 shots in less than an inch at its 60 yard zero.Why spend money when you can pick up one for peanuts.

Wowsers impressive that's a lot older than me and still shoots v well excellent stuff,

I'm going to look at the Brnos, 452's and 453s when paperwork lands, max budget for rifle is £350/375 most Ive found usually have mod with it and usually a scope at that budget, the old Brnos do look really good rifles (back when things were made properly and nothing skimped in QC/parts)

I'm saving up at the moment for various things for shooting gear wise in waiting/prep for my grant 6 weeks to go,

just got my thermal spotter on order, fox caller is next building up the kit bit by bit. Got a fantastic pair of binos off andyk on here 10x42 nikon monarch 5s massively better than my bushnells that I previously used(they now my spare pair) unbelievably good thanks andyk

I have a 452 varmint 20 inch barrel, bought out the box probably 25 years ago. Shudder to think how many bricks of ammo it's had through it, I'm a professional keeper so it lives in the Gator or truck when I'm on the rounds at work.
Never dropped a beat, only upgrade is lighter trigger spring that cost about £20 for the set, still got the other 2 plus the original
Can't go wrong with 452's, lovely bit of kit for silly money secondhand.

They do certainly have a good rep from what I've seen reviews wise on YouTube and from what people have put on here, finer trigger, non bolt safety etc
I've just watched some videos of the LRP version too it is a nice model they made for sure,

I would go for a synthetic one / synth stainless cz 457 22lr but I've decided to spend my coin on investing in a decent used or ideally new 22-250
Mod and mounts, already got a scope Burris 6xe 3-18x56 to fit on top to get me going

So one of the older models it is Brno/452/453/455

I have 455 22 rf, 455 17hmr, both sears smoothed out by N Clarke, they both shoot straight, cannot see a reason to swap, more a issue with ammo consistency with the 22 subs.

I'm not sure who the manufacturer was, it just says 3-9x32 WA and it has a nice gloss finish. I bought it a good few years ago and it lived on a 10:22 for a while until I got the Cogswell & Harrison.

I'm asking because I have an older 2.5-10x44 Tasco scope that looks very similar, the same turret caps, magnification dial etc. How did you cope with it on the 10/22 without it having parallax adjustment?

Cannot go wrong with CZs or if memory serves a long way back - BRNOs?
Had them in their various iterations over 50 or so years from .22lr then .22magnum (wot a step-up!) then latterly a lovely C&H .17hmr and .22lr stutzen - all first class in terms of accuracy and dependability. My .22 stutzen has a Zulus V1 which with the ballistic calculator makes rabbits silly easy at wotever distances, in fact this combo has made the .17 pretty much redundant…

I'm asking because I have an older 2.5-10x44 Tasco scope that looks very similar, the same turret caps, magnification dial etc. How did you cope with it on the 10/22 without it having parallax adjustment?

It could well be the same manufacture. My understanding is that a lot of these scopes were made in the same facility but branded as required by different importers. Regarding the parallax? It's very clear and crisp in the higher magnifications at say 55 yards but perfectly useable at shorter distances if you wind it down pro-rata and I set it with the reticle focused from adjusting it from fully out then back towards the main tube. Counterintuitive I know but this method does give me a slightly shorter focus distance some how and I was reluctant to mess with the objective with such a vintage or rather period style scope.
