Quite excited about shooting Buffalo, Elephant, Croc, Leopard, and Hippo with it next year for a 30th birthday present to myself.

That's quite a 30th birthday present! Try and keep something for your 60th though. Which is roughly when my horseback moose hunt in the Yukon will take place as things are currently going, and assuming that no-one goes and melts the Arctic in the meantime.

Dare one ask a ball park figure for such work? By all means PM if this is a bit vulgar! Sorry to ask, but I might be thinking along the same lines.
Cheers
DS

I would give everything i have for something like that and a couple of weeks on the dark continent putting it to good use where it belongs

a .416 rigby is my dream rifle.
past my 30th maybe as a 40th!!

off topic slightly but did you have any trouble getting a variation for it? did it require booked hunts/safaris etc?

No probs with variation, i'm in Africa 4-5 times a year anyway as well as other countries, and my house is like a Zoo!

As long as you can show proof of a booked safari therfe is no issue getting a DG calibre weapon. You just need a letter from your PH stating that you are booked with him, what species you will be hunting and what calibre is required.

My FEO stated it was basically a formality, particularly if you already have a FAC etc. What you will fing though is many forces will only grant the use of solid ammunition for such high calibre weapons to allow zeroing etc. It was made very clear to me that if I did apply for a .375 or .416 that Derbyshire would not add deer to the ticket for this weapon or allow expanding ammunition.

I am aware that some SD members do have large calibre weapons with expanding ammo granted, but this is pretty rare. Derbyshire basically said, you have a .30-06 which is big enough for any UK deer, so no chance!

Beautiful rifle, hope you have some wonderful hunts with it.

I want to see some pictures of your zoo!!
