Anyone signed the government e petition for the repeal of the hunting act?

Might seem a bit weird, but I've always thought the Hunting Act works very well; most anti's (apart from the hardcore activists) think Hunting has been banned, whilst in reality the Act is so full of holes that many Huts carry on exactly as they did before. My concern is that if it is repealed, a more effective ban might be brought in sometime in the future.

Yeah I tend to agree talking to the local hunt master he reckons its never been so popular even more so since the ban I don't think it had the impact they thought it would have ,he tells me that I think only three people have been charged in relation to the hunting act since it came in hardly a huge amount is it.....

Or if it is repealed it might deter further legislation of this nature. Game shooting and the use of lead shot and bullets are currently in the firing line, without a determined and united fight from the countrysports community we are bound to see a steady erosion of our liberties. It is not a question of whether hunting etc. is a good idea or not, it is a matter of having the freedom to choose. atb Tim

likewise didnt know it was out there, but to be honest nothing has changed for us at all my brother runs a foot pack and we are out before dawn and back mid morning unless hounds are lost. In the case of this particular piece of legislation " if it don't work why fix it!"

Yes maybe the wording is not, shall we say "perfect" but I signed and so far only 25 have done so!! SUPPORT your country sports and stand together wether you only hunt/fish/shoot whats the difference ????????????

Tim,
I agree fully, but a large % of our population is very hypocritical....they would happily ban hunting/shooting/fishing as being 'cruel', whilst tucking into a £1 factory farmed chicken shipped in from the Far East....'what the eye doesn't see...etc' Sadly, I think this trait will only get worse as our population increasingly loses touch with the countryside. CA/BASC/NFUand many other organisations are doing their best to educate, but it is an uphill struggle.

Rupert

The way it is worded now puts me off signing it.

Neil. :)

Hunting is the most humane and most effective method of wildlife management.
It is the most natural method of wildlife management, as only healthy animals can escape. Like natural selection.
Hunting is also not cruel. Unlike other methods of control, any animal caught by hounds is either killed outright or escapes unharmed. No animals escape from a hunt wounded.
The hounds kill the foxes in a matter of seconds due to the strength of the hounds. If a fox is "ripped apart" by hounds, it is only after the fox has been killed. Hunting is more humane than other methods of fox control.
The hunting act is based off prejudice, ignorance, and a desire to settle old political scores, as admitted by some MPs who supported the act.
The government should stop listening to phoney animal welfare concerns, and the hunting act should be repealed.

I want the act repealed but will not sign this. They need to sort their own house out first starting with digging, stopping and breeding. That is not 'natural selection. And I'm sure all would be started again should the act be repealed. And more humane than a well placed bullet.
Divide and conquer, still looks like the antis have the upper hand.
We must all stand together, equally, not say my method is better than yours.

(TBH - we all know that hunting with hounds is a fairly useless means of fox control. I see the argument that those involved in 'bloodsports' should stand together as this is the thin end of the wedge, but along with 96% of the population I couldn't care less either way on foxhunting. There's just 2% either end of the spectrum who are very vocal)

I remember working the terriers for years and using this method to control foxes in my local area extremely effective. I signed and would welcome any form of good dog work brought back. Apache might i add to your post 90% of armature deer stalkers dont need to manage deer they have no effect on the population. So going buy your thinking most of the members of this site should hand there rifles back and take up something more useful.

I would totally agree that there is a place for good terrier work. Terrier to ground, dig to it and then dispatch. No problem with that. I think that there is also a place for traditional fox hunting too. What I don't like is the my method is best approach. I supported them during the march, I'd like to think they'd do the same if I needed their support, but I'm beginning to wonder.
