Batch two of 'The Stalking Knife'

That is Windy's knife and is shaped much more. I got it out last night to start working through the grits, and my wife served kedgerie.

I then spent a few hours trying to remove the fish bone that got stuck down my throat!! Not as amusing as it sounds I assure you.

Tomorrow is set aside to await sofa delivery and to sand those two knives for the owners to choose their sheaths, and to laminate the handles of the next three ready for shaping.

I'd like to add that I am a teacher for the most part, and as my wife is looking for promotion I spend more time looking after the kids. I try to reflect the fact that this isn't my full time job in my lead times and try to stay in comms as much as possible.

Almost there now - just time to do the finer grits and choose the sheath....

I received my knife at the weekend,

not had the opportunity to use it for its intended purpose yet.

I was very pleased when I opened the parcel, well wrapped up with instructions on cleaning and care.

I specified a full wrap over sheath as I do a fair bit of moving over arkward terrain when stalking and didnt want to lose the knife,,,

The blade was well polished and quite sharp, however, ive spent a few hours polishing with a japanese wet stone so get a finer edge and the resulting edge is superb.

Photographs dont really do the scales justice at all.

Thanks for putting that up.

The edges come out sharp and usable, but there is always room to personalise and time spent on a Japanese whet stone is never wasted.

I hope you get years of use.

Youre very welcome Richard.

I am sure I will use it for the rest of my stalking "career"

Moving towards the end point, all shiney -oiled and finished to 1800 grit. Shoulder and arm ache.... off to see Quantum

More tomorrow.... I discovered a small hole in the grain in the other, it is being filled and stabilised now.

for info from Factory ( Ie from my Shed ;) ) the blades have a 17.5 deg per side ie a 35 deg secondary bevel which is 800 gt and honed sharp

will work fine and be robust but can be improved to your personal liking ie convexing the shoulders back a little

ATB

Enjoy

Duncan

Black buckeye with red liners and stainless fittings.... 1800 grit.

I like the contrast in this one, as much as I like the flow in the amboyna.

You've gotta love wood. Only a couple of hours of hand sanding this morning, so the shoulder still has a bit for all those belts and sheaths this afternoon......

Been working on the next three whilst the glue dries on the leather sheaths. These are all dry fit photos, shafting epoxy on later with lanyard liner tube.

The owners should recognise theirs.... It's a shame the wood doesn't look anywhere near as exciting as it does at the end, but I hope the front edges give a little away, sadly not always as the one here that looks quite plain is anything but!

Two more ready to leave today....

....and three more to be shaped tomorrow, after this nasty weather has gone through. Shed conversion means my big belt sander is used on the decking.....

Three more, done a lot today and yesterday, couple of hours on the belt sander this morning, then the old shoe shine with the knife vice, followed by working through to 1800 grit.

They'll get their sheaths in the next few days, almost at the end of batch two and Duncan is getting batch three sorted this week.

Busy as hell, but I love seeing them done.

The last two now have their clothes, ready to go out in the post today! One more almost done and two more getting along. Duncan is sending me the next blades next week......
