Introducing myself as a New Member from the USA

Sargesniper

Active Member
Hello to all. I am a new member from the USA. I live in the southern state of Louisiana. I am retired from ENTERGY CORP. I was in the USMC from 1963-1967. I served in Viet-Nam as a sniper. Hence the name(Sargesniper). My rifles i shoot most are: --Rem 700 / 22-250. -- Rem. 700 /.308 -- Savage F-Class / .260 Rem.--Win. Mod. 70 30/06. The Win. 70 is the same as the one i was issued in Viet-Nam. All 4 of these have 24" heavy barrels except for the Savage. It has a 30" Barrel. My scopes are: Nightforce on the first 3 and a Unertl on the 70. All shoot very well. Hope i haven't bored any of you with my info. Respectfully Sargesniper......SEMPER FI.

hi sargesniper and welcome to sd all the best.

Thanks to all for the welcome aboard. Looking forward to discussions in the future here. I hope i will understand most of the terminology you fellows use so please bear with me as i am use to southern fellows who speak a little different than ya'll do. Once again i thank all who responded so positively toward me. ...........SEMPER-FI!

Thanks much for the welcome. Yes Carlos was a very special individual. Never met him personally thou we were there at the same time. I worked a good bit North of the Da-Nang area, where Carlos was if i'm not mistaken. He was a great shooter and individual. He will be missed for many years to come. Well enough of my carrying on. Thanks to all and shoot bug holes. .............SEMPER FI!

Welcome to SD sarge, I spent some time in your home state, good people and great food. Its just to hot for my frostbitten a$$ lol.

Looking forward to your input AB

Thanks for the welcome AB. Were you here during the Crawfish season? Those things are some good eating no matter how they are prepared. Most people up North think they are only for fish bait. We eat most things that the swamp has to offer. Well as far as input goes, i'm kind of getting my feet wet by reading what ya'll are up to right now. I dont want to step on any toes if you know what i mean as I am the new kid on the block so to speak. I must say that these fellows at the SD are a bit more friendly than some i have come across elsewhere on the internet. Don't want to intrude. I'm from the south and we for the most part are hospitable toward people. I believe that a stranger is a friend i havent met as of yet! .............SEMPER FI!

Thank you kindly Norrie for the welcome. I can't get over all the flowers being thrown my way from ya'll. If i didn't know better i would swear ya'll were southern boys. I would love to visit your countries some day, thou this is only a pipe dream so to speak. I doubt i ever leave the states again. Yes there are some great guys at the VFW,but i haven't visited one in a long time. Inevitably the conversations turn to unpleasant memories or someone asks the no-no question. It's not that i am ashamed of the job i had. It's the job i was best suited for. I've always been, since i was a kid, good at hunting and shooting most everything that shoots. I guess that's why i chose the name Sargesniper. Again i thank you and your fellow shooters for treating me with kindness and making me feel as i belong. ..............SEMPER FI!

Hi Sarge - Welcome!

Nice to find a fellow Model 70 fan - I think we're few and far between in the UK. Is your 30.06 Pre 64, Post 2008 or the dark years in between?

I'm currently using a push feed .243 but planning to replace it with a post 2008 CRF and build custom 6.5x55 and 300 H&H rifles using M70 actions.

Stoat's Tail

welcome aboard sarge you will often see the word charlie mentioned on here we are refering to the red fox not the V C that you know as charlie although ours is just as cunning lol

...not that rare...my Win 70 is a 2nd year of production, pre-War Super Grade in 30-Gov't-06 with a Lyman 48WJS aperture sight. I'll not tell you what it cost me!!
I have a couple of very good reference books on the Model 70; the pre-64's were something else. Keep thinking of sending mine to IBA to have a Douglas barrel fitted & Unertl mounts.
I used to know a chap that was even into Model 54's!! Never seen one for sale, yet...

...though the ones over here possibly smell worse too & take a more unhealthy interest in chickens

Welcome to the forum. I was lucky enough to meet a fellow of yours when he first visited the UK for a talk - he had a bigger tally than Carlos & was next to unknown until a book was written that mentioned him...Chuck Mawhinny - he's a great bloke, even though it takes a few minutes to pick up on his accent - as he's a Southern boy like yourself!!
