bad advice...

Having been the frequent recipient (and occasional donor) of advice that at best amounts to nonsense or at worst could actually be dangerous, I thought it would be instructive to root out the most common bits of recieved wisdom that logic or experience show to be utter tripe.

So: what are your gems of dubious advice - the nuggets of nonsense imparted with great self importance by the guy leaning against the counter in the gun shop?

My favourites to date:

- rubbing yourself with wild garlic will hide your scent so the deer won't smell you.
- zero an inch high at 100 and it'll be dead on at 200.
- never take your moderator off, because the POI will shift each time you take it off and put it back on.

So - add to the fun.

  • 12 ft/lb .22 air rifle pellet is less affected by the wind as it is heavier than .177:roll:
  • Pour wax into the end of a 12 bore cartridge and you then have a solid slug!
  • Factory ammunition is more accurate than reloaded stuff.
  • etc.....

Steyr-Mannlicher rifles are ****, inaccurate and their stocks snap in normal use.
7mm-08 is a **** calibre
Not using a moderator will result in unendurable recoil...
... therefore stutzens aren't a viable choice anyway.

urinate on that electric fence kid, it's great fun! ...still scarred to this day!!...guess it was deserved, despite being only 5 ish..LOL!

Shooting air pellets backwards is best for rats as they expand on impact!;)

Don't bother with a moderator, all they do is reduce your muzzle velocity!

That Zeiss 3x12x56 will be no good for lowlight shooting or lamping the man was a dick anyway.

Screwed up bits of paper fired from an airgun won't hurt, so it's ok to use them for close-range indoor gun battles...
