Shooting stick suggestions

[Pheasant Feeder]

I made a pair using the B&Q canes.
Cut them to length (so when closed they are level with my nose), used an exhaust mounting rubber to hold them together, pipe insulation on the tops, with a couple of pieces 18" and 24" from bottom to reduce noise.

The only issues are the exhaust rubber is tight so can't really roll it down for a sitting shot, but as most of my shots are standing its not really an problem for me, and they don't fold or collapse down to a convenient length for transporting, so I have two 6' canes in the back of the land rover all the time.

+1 for limulus sticks. I have found them very easy to use and not noisy at all. Had a very nice Roe buck off them the other night at 150 yards.

I use sheep castration rings on mine, works well and cost pennies!

Hi Anthony,

Personally, i bought the greens canes from B&Q NOT the thick-ist ones either, slightly cut them down for a perfect height, electrical taped the tops about 4-6inches from the top to give it some form then heat shrink tubing over that,(again from B&Q then 3 1/4 way down popped some foam on one stick to stop them making any noise when stalking. rather than bolting or cable tieing the sticks i nipped to my local tyre garage and they gave me a circular rubber ring of an exhaust bracket "works a treat by the way" and with a flick of a finger opens up with out any hassle, also it can be easily pulled down if you need to kneel/sit down for a shot.

if you would like me to take a picky just let me know.

and it cost next to nothing to buy the goods!! ( feels better if you do it yourself, so to speak!!

Thanks for all the tips chaps...I can't decide between bank stick DIY or green pole DIY! I may go for green pole to start with - cheaper and that is what I have used before.

Definitely make your own. I was torn between the B&Q sticks and making some out of hazel. I chose the second option and I am very glad I did too! Such as waste of money buying expensive sticks when you can do the job just as well for less than half the price.

Two hazel shoot, around 2" or so thick, height up to my nose (resting binos on for extra steadiness), nut and bolt with washer to join the two with drilled hole... IDEAL!

Recently added some rubber inner tube to the top and also a length of baler twine (best stuff ever) below join to stop sticks sliding too far apart. Final addition was put on after my sticks slid on some wet ground while stalking muntjac, and I missed my chance!!! Makes them easier to pick up and move while deployed too. Thorough field testing on these bad boys thats for sure!!!

Well chaps, I have made the very basic green pole set this evening and been out bunny bashing with them...not a hugely successful trip as I only got 2 (I saw more hares than rabbits) - but good practice nevertheless.
