So how does a (good) syndicate work in general? What makes a bad one bad?

Whatever you do don't ask the landowners wife if she likes eating the meat. Might not get quite the same response as asking if she likes venison...........although you never know

really what I think spoils a syndicate is greed , the lease holder sets on too many people for the ground and there's not enough deer to go around I recently heard of a fellow paying 500 a year to shoot a 200 acre patch that at least half a dozen more folks were paying for too , that's ridiculous .

I have always said, "Horns make terrible soup." That being said, I plan on getting my DSC1 & 2 and Butchery under my belt as soon as possible, after I get to Scotland, next year. Then, I will be looking to pay, if neccessary, for the stalking of a trophy Red Deer Stag and a Sika Stag for my wall, as well as the "sweet" meat. Past that I will be willing to take what is need, for proper game management. My goal is to keep my Larder full and not have to purchase ANY domestic meat. I have no doubt, if I "play my cards right" I will get more stalking and shooting than I have time for; and I will be retired. I won't say no to driving in shoots either; good exercise.

I admire you're optimism sir but believe me you will be paying for your red stag and sika stag over here virtually nobody lets stags go for free

I am sure the price will not be low, but I am just as sure, it will be worth it. I look at it as an investment of memories for when I can't hold a rifle/shotgun or stalk anymore. I can sit in the lounge, with two fingers of my favorite Water of Life and look at my investment and remember how it was.
