Eddie, no one is defending him, you asked what you should have done and got pretty much the same answers from all on this post. also if it had of gone pear shaped you may have had to change your name...atb

I cross the motorway near Greenloaning with a rifle over my shoulder , my mates farm is on one side of the motorway and his mother in law's is on the other.....plenty of motorists see us ....no issues

just for interest whats the difference between that and someone walking along the side of a road with a broken unloaded shotgun back to the guncart after a pheasant drive

why are you,s all jumping down the guys throat, the man is only making a valid point and a good one at that, is it not in best practice to have a firearm covered in a car never mind in the front seat for joe public to see, if he got caught with it hell slap it into him the police would see it as ready for firing , goodbye licence ...good on you lucky eddie for making the point

....are you you an ordinary member of joe public or do you have a cape and red pants to wear on your crusades? I can see why you would be concerned butsimple answer is it isn't your responsibility to sort it!

LOL - for WHAT CRIME?

It's things like this that wind me up!
People/shooters have been hiding away what they do for far too long, more people should be open and public about what they do in a bid to restore the normality of seeing someone out & about with a gun instead of hiding away like we are doing something to be ashamed of! I often drive between bits of land with the rifle in the front footwell or between the seats and walk across roads with a gun between plots of land without any problem, he may have only been crossing the road you don't know & as we know ASUMPTION IS THE MOTHER OF ALL FK UPS! It's not your business & you do not know the facts so keep your nose in your own car & drive on would be my advice.

Whats next...

Posting notes under peoples wipers cause their tax is out or you think in your opinion a tyre tread could be low..

Too much mate

I am sorry but cant see why you are getting so excited. You have no idea of what was going on, the guy might have just been about to turn round and head back down the track to continue his day out shooting. Who are you to stop and tell him the errors of his way, if indeed there were any errors? I can assure you if you did decide to stop and tell me what you thought of my actions you would be promptly told to Foxtrot Oscar. My god man get a life and go out and enjoy some shooting:doh:.

Why would you have stopped him? are you the old bill? is it your farm? is it your permission? did you note the number plate and speak to land owner? or were you thinking of suggesting best practice to him?
atb
+1..Ive found its best to mind your own business , he wasn't interfering with you so don't busy yourself with his ..

Thank the Lord that I am lucky enough to live somewhere where it is commonplace to see such goings on, now someone using an IPad, that may attract attention !

This reminds me of the smug little girls at school - Miss! Miss! He's chewing gum in class miss!

First, I'm not sure that any law has been broken, and I know from experience that people in that area really aren't bothered by firearms.

Second, are you generally in the habit of commenting on other people's misdemenours? You must be a joy to be around.

I was pleased to read your post as it is perfectly legal to cross a public road with an unslipped (but unloaded) rifle providing you have 'good reason' - and crossing a public road from one permission to another is reasonable, and therefore 'good reason' in Law. If you do nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about.

I just might have phoned the police to inform them that there is a sniper with a rifle next to the A90 and waited to see the fireworks

Wow, one can only hope that someone similarly 'responsible' returns the favour.
No law was being broken so why feel duty bound to act on your uninformed conjecture?

Good comment......very funny..... too many busybodies about.

David.

Ok so judging by most of the replies most of you would have left Derrick Bird to get on with things and just turned a blind eye if you saw him immediately before the shooting started.

At least we all know now where we stand!

Fixed it for you too.

What a disingenuous comment!

I think some of the replies are very unfair.... Eddie only asked a question, he thought about mentioning to the lads in the Landrover that it might be a good idea to keep the gun out of sight but he decided not to.
Personally I think we should do all we can to promote what we do (within the law of course).... I don't hide my rifle when crossing roads from field to field or hide in the hedge until the traffic has passed, I just drop the mag out so it's not "loaded" that's the key word.

So guys... give Eddie a break, we are all on the same side ;)
