Humane dispatch condition on their FAC

That's an Interesting scenario, at the Interview for my last renewal I asked for .32 S&W to assist with humane despatch, the FEO was all in favour and suggested that I should write an accompanying letter to support my application, the reply came back to state that ' Your request for the grant of 32 has been declined, a grant of said firearm cannot be made on the assumption that you may only need the said firearm In the future'... Honestly, you couldn't make It up!.....I will apply again, If only for the fun of It.

sparko,
save your money on getting a pistol restricted and take your shotgun and maybe a rifle on your call outs, it's all you will ever need on an RTA.

Please don't confuse condition which permits the holder to purchase expanding ammunition in connection with;
(a) the lawful shooting of deer
(b) the shooting of vermin or in connection with the management of any estate, other wildlife
(c) the humane killing of animals
(d) the shooting of animals for the protection of other animals or humans

This condition is for the ammo only, unless it states specifically for each firearm.... tread carefully ;)
stated specifically for each firearm as suggested by head of local Fire arms dept.

Doesn't the deer act in England and Wales state that you can humanely dispatch a suffering deer 'by any means' which would suggest that the condition that I can use expanding ammunition for humane dispatch is there to reinforce that?

No. That final conditions only relates to the use of expanding ammunition. You'll notice that all the other conditions start with "the (calibre) rifle (serial number) shall only be used for...."

In an extreme situation no one is going to prosecute you for using a firearm to end an animal's suffering in extremis. It would never be in the public interest and you have the Animal Welfare Act 2006 in your defence whereby you could be guilty of causing unnecessary suffering by having the means to end the suffering but not having used such means.

Very different to setting out with the explicit aim of humane dispatch.

A shot gun is the number 1 tool for the job.

Mine states............"The firearms and ammunition shall be used also in connection with the humane killing of animals".
