Massively impressed. Wish I could do something like that. Looks great.

Its so nice to see the use of a bolster on a knife as there seems to be something of an aversion to such in the UK and not sure why. Can’t be laziness on the part of makers. Surely?

It's all down to the curse of the UK knife market..... Bushcraft!

I started a thread about 'show us your hunting knife' on BB, very few responses compared to the 'show us your bushcraft knife' thread which spans Many pages.

So, UK makers who have to make a living cater for the market where the money is. They can churn out a nice batch of 01 bushcrafters in very short order, and sell them for between £150-£250 each minimum. A knife with a bolster takes more time and materials, and so will cost more time/money to make, and more money for someone to pay.

The top shelf makers with experience behind them, a desirable name, who're able to do the job quicker, and orders enough to be sure of work to keep them going can do them, and they can also charge a premium price as well.

Look at this one I'm doing, now think realistically about how much it is worth without a famous name on the side and lacking the clinical precision of the likes of Stu Mitchell? Despite the awful amount of time it's taken Me to make, do you think people would pay enough for it that I could pay my bills for a month or two?

Yep, Bushcraft is both killer and a saviour but at least I’m consistent in my assertion:

So at what price would you put on it thats the big ? and prob on others minds too, i know how much i have paid for unnamed makers from the uk and overseas and named makers around the world !! .And no i will not its not my place to ,but i will say this is turning out to be a knife that would not be sold if i owned it. are you going to hone it to a working blade or polish it up and present it as a top gift.:tiphat:

There is no price for this one, it's a gift to a man who's given freely of the knowledge he's gained over 40 years of stalking and shooting.

Despite the filing and the sentimental nature of the project, it'll have an edge and it'll be used while he's out after the Roe. :)

I understand people being nervous of losing it, but it find the true enjoyment comes from using it. Just be careful to double check you picked it up!

I like to think he'll go the extra mile in making sure he knows where he put this one down after a gralloch! :D

I know I said there's no price for this one, but to do this job tonight I had to turn down a leg over, so I'll chalk that up as an IOU for Phil! :D

That was an act of sheer will and dedication I can tell you!

Lush man!

When do you start mine??

I have a set of scales to do it full justice.

Cheers

Be a long time before I can start another one, need more practice and need to finish another couple that I've got laying around.

I do however know the perfect man to undertake such a task!

The Stalking Directory

Infinitely better/faster at doing it than me, and a trade member as well to boot. :tiphat:

+1 for Stu's work. He combines style and function like nobody else, in my opinion.

No affiliation, just a happy customer.
