Hello all

We have had lots of enquiries on the forum ref the delivery date of the new Yukon Photon 4.6x42 Digital Night Vision Riflescope.

Well, we have some good news we will start shipping tomorrow!

With a brand new high resolution 656x492 sensor, and new digital reticle with user selectable reticles, the new Photon will take the place of the old Photon 5x42 with ease.

Retailing at under £400 we don't expect them to hang around for long!

6000 joules rated so ideal for boar, foxes etc on bigger cals.

Detection range on paper is "less" but due to a LED IR this time rather than the noisy grainy built in laser IR.

More info here, and thanks for reading.

I notice the resolution has gone up from 36 to 38 lines per mm, does that appear significant to the eye?

I have two of the original models, both purchased from you guys, I would be interested in upgrading but only if the improvements are significant. Without the option to return via the distance selling regulations which I think you must honour but it looks like you don't want to, then I will have to wait for much more feedback from those willing to take a punt.

Any info on the scope or why you don't seem to acknowledge the distance selling regulations on this product would be very useful.

Thanks

Hi new sensor resolution is considerably better at 656x492 pixels.

As for distance selling regs, you are perfectly entitled to change your mind about anything you order from Scott Country and return it within 14 days for a refund. The standard conditions apply.

We also offer a 7 day demo service to try before you buy, although given the way Photon XT is selling it may be a few weeks before we have some spare for samples.

Here is a little sample video captured to MPR, which of course is compressed for You Tube so the visible image quality is considerably better to answer your question.

At the ranges the Photon is designed for I would say it would happily run with an N750 for comparison.

Very impressed and the new variable power IR LED illuminator is spot on.

Only down side is no EPS3 battery port and the lens cap albeit improved for day use with a pin hole design, still falls off easily.

(ive lost our sample one already in the dark tunnel lol)

But for £399.99 you simply cannot go wrong for 100m vermin control.

6000 joules rated also!

ive twinned our sample with a Nite Tek T38IR and its mighty impressive!

I bought this one from you in December 2013.

As you can see the security label tells me that if I open the box I have to keep it which is in fact contravening the distance selling regulations, I wanted to try the scope so had no choice but to open the box. If you policy has now changed then Im delighted and will place an order for an XT version.

Just to make sure I have this right, I can buy a new Photon XT by mail order, once I receive it I can open the box and inspect the scope to satisfy myself that it is what I want, if I am not happy I can return it for a full refund including postage so long as I notify you in writing and return the goods within 14 days?

Hi thanks for the email.

Yes indeed we will our sample has to go off to one of the magazines for review so as soon as its back.

I do know that a regular forum user who has just bought one will be doing a comparison video of both units.

Hi mate,

I work in internet retailing. A retailer cannot over rule the DSRs which is why the caveat "Your consumer rights..." is included to dissuade you from doing so, however please remember that your rights under the DSRs is to cancel 7 working days after receipt but the notice must be in writing (an email will suffice). It doesn't even have to be in the original product packaging; but it is a real PITA when a customer does that (it's soooo unnecessary, or they write on it or use the original box with a label stuck on it  ).

If however the retailer extends the returns period by agreement, then the rights to cancel should extend with them also this is as yet untested and to be safe I would stick with 7 working days).

I would love to try 1. A mate has the early 1 and its very grainy. If the later model is good i will buy 1.

Widu13 - distance selling regs have now changed and allow 14 days from date of reciept of order, where as it USED to be 7 working days.

Better for the consumer!

just to stick up for scott country i have actually returned a night vision unit to them (not a yukon photon) and they were fine about it with no problems what so ever, infact they never quibled it once

I would also be keen to what its like out to 150-200 yards, still looks value for money though, the currant photon is selling 2nd hand for the same price as the new one

I have two mk 1 photons on the go at the moment one on my 22 LR and one on a swivel link on my rifle rest on the truck with a doubler to pan around the area, they work brilliantly

just taken delivery of the mark 2 version and it looks pretty good, it's going on the 22 WMR bit disappointed there is no external power jack point as I run the other two off of external batteries which gives a straight eight hours uninterrupted viewing

i will use the same pulsar 850ir on the new one which will give a decent 100 yd view, if I was honest 5 x 42 scope 100 yds is plenty for that scope.

With the panning one that has the doubler on, it gives a cracking view over 100 yds, not sure if I would use the doubler on a rifle

have used the MK 2 sat evening for searching and it's worked out well will fit it on the rifle in the week and give it a run

all good so far

I was a little disappointed with the lack of external power supply, however for the money, £399 buys you a hell of a lot of product.

I am very impressed with the new unit, and side by side with a Pulsar N550 (which cost over a grand a few years ago) i know which one i would be taking home.

Now just waiting on more arriving as we sold the first batch in a couple of days!

I'm assuming these are rated for any caliber?

Many thanks

Far better, I can see rabbits at 200 with the inbuilt ir, i'll be putting mine on the 22wmr but would be happy to have one on the 243.
I got well miffed at keep having to pick up the daylight cover which kept falling off so took a dust cover for a well known make of 10x42 bino's and punched a hole in the middle, job done

if you had yours on a .243, would you happy taking rabbits/foxs out at 200yards?
the reason I ask is, that im looking at one myself but before I commit I wont to be sure its right for me.

I dont generally shoot rabbits at 200 and try not to shoot foxes at over 150 if i can help it but yes in my opinion the scope is well good enough to do so if i need to,i was out last night it was raining enough to significantly affect the view in the thermal but to give you an idea at 160 through the photon Mk2 i could easily see sheep clearly enough to head shoot them, however, you have to bare in mind it only has 4.6 mag, i had thought about a doubler but found that on the Mk1 the doubler altered the zero by at least 6" at 50yds so for me a doubler is a waste of money
