ruger 1022

Lads If any of you want a new 10/22 give me a try, I am an official Ruger dealer :D Or any other Rugers for that matter!

Hi don't suppose you have a stock or any other goodies for a 10/22 in 22mag?

I have an old one in the cabinet which I keep promising myself I should get sorted out .... really needs a good sorting actually ... just makes me smile when I shoot it!

Tony

Hmm how far off the boil did it go?

And ye I think I'm more tempted by these due to the playing about you can do with them (I'm an engineer by trade)
Frankly all over the place. Not sure what changed, cleaned it thoroughly, tightened the screws etc, no better.
i did put a hogue stock on it and it was still ok but might go back to as it was with the original wood and see if that makes any difference. Might need to fault find it, just need some more time!

I think I will look for a 10/22 to fill my .22lr slot when if my FAC comes back with it on.

They seem very versatile and very good prices!

Best place to buy one from?

Rimfire Magic (South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies)

Roger and Sheila are ace, can provide you with anything from a basic 10/22 to a fully tricked out (and VERY accurate) custom jobby at more than £1500

Worth every penny!

I think I would like a basic so I can work on it as I go tbh, it would probably be a rifle I never sell so it should move along with me I think :)

Start with the target version - stainless action and barrel, laminated stock, as they are intrinsically more accurate. Then some trigger mods, although the target model already has a better trigger. Then add all the tricked out bit you want!

Again, try second hand from Rimfire magic - they have a nice moderated target model in stock (it used to be mine)

Actually I disagree with Adiepie. My call would be to buy an older Stainless model as cheap as you can. The standard barrel yields very little to the bull. We aren't talking 100 yard prone shooting vs Anshultz in bondage wear are we?

You are likely to toss the stock, mag release, bolt hold mechanism and barrel band so no value there. Trigger job takes an hour watching YouTube videos and 30 mins to do. Or you buy a couple of Power Custom kits.

For an additional £250 you can make it look like anything you want from an AR to a Bullpup to a Boyds Evolution alien and have all the high performance mods and feed it 30 round mags!
If our laws made it easier you would just buy a bolt receiver and barrel and build it from scratch.

In agreement with NorthDorset there the standard factory barrel yields little in accurasy to the factory target barrel from Ruger.
Incidentally unless things have changed since I last owned a Ruger 10/22 the stainless model only has a stainless barrel. The action is anodised alloy just the same as all other models, only bright nickel/silver in colour.

Ye I think I was going for a nice cheap one and going from there, if I'm changing things there is no point in buying new to change for other new parts, I will just buy old and change for new :)

8x57 is right. The Barrel is stainless, the receiver is some alloy and the bolt a trigger group common across the range. I understand the newer ones have moved to polymer or as we of a certain age call it "plastic" if it's the reliever I'm not sure how it would stand up to the assault on the bolt buffer over time.

I have reworked dozens of 10/22's and if you are keeping the stock barrel, the very first thing you do is ditch the barrel band. I mill/saw off the part of the band that goes over the barrel and leave the two halves clamped on the wood if the 'carbine' look is what you're after. The triggers are easily stoned if you know what you are doing. I did JAYB's 10/22 rifle in about 20 minutes sitting at my kitchen table. Do not be tempted to trim springs in order to get a lighter pull.

If you are not confident in doing the trigger, buy a trigger assembly. I like Green Mountain barrels and they make one that fits the issue Ruger stock. Very accurate, air gaged and available in the UK.

Next hint: Keep the magazines clean. The more subs you shoot the dirtier the mags get. An ultrasonic case cleaner will get the job done if you don't want to disassemble the magazine.~Muir

Very good stuff to know Muir, I can't wait to get my FAC back as a 10/22 will probably be my first purchase tbh, it does sound like it will keep me happy for a long time

Muir do you have have any pics of the altered barrel band ??
so my train of thought at the min is ;
float the barrel and remove / alter the barrel band and lighten the trigger pull by either an after market kit or watch vids on you tube to see how to stone the original bits .
I only use it for bunny bashing not target shooting

The trigger group on the 10/22T is significantly better than on the standard models (I've used both) The receiver is alloy though, but with some minor parts (auto bolt release, extended mag release), it makes for a smashing little rifle.

Still stand by what I said about SYSS/ Rimfire Magic - just take a look at their site (http://www.rimfiremagic.co.uk/second_hand_firearms.html)

I seem to buy something from Rimfire Magic every week. Yesterday a trigger kit for my CZ455 arrived. Yes they are very good.

ABR £10 Extended Mag release £20. How much more is the target rifle? I paid £125 for my last 10/22 with its moderator and 150 subs.

The beauty of a 10/22 is that you pays your money and you takes your choice, wait for delivery, install it and make it your own!

This is on a Ruger Model 96/22 I fitted a M-77/22M barrel to. It's the same band so you will get the idea.~Muir

I'll second that. It seems to be that certain brands of ammo are dirtier than others. I'm currently finishing off the last of 4 boxes of Eley subs, very accurate but will only feed reliably for the one magazine, and then it has to be stripped. RWS subs have worked the best for me so far.

I found Ely subs were superbly accurate but wouldn't cycle at all, CCIs cycled evey time but accuracy was limited to about 15m, over that and I couldn't guarantee even hitting a rabbit. I settled on Remmington subs, cycled every time and accuracy was enough to reliably shoot bunnies out to 50m

Yes no problem but is this something we can do face to face as I'd hate to get something wrong and have you screw up a £600 stock Duncan.
